Gas drive offs increase as gas prices increase.
This was the one of the top stories locally on TV news tonight here in Kansas. One even caused a fuel spill when he drove off with the hose still in his tank.

I found this article from Louisiana also quoting a 40% increase in drive offs.

While I am sure some are doing this out of desparation, I wonder how many do this because they, like der Leader, think the law does not apply to them. There is a lot of talk about stiffer penalties, loss of drivers license, etc. I am also sure this will get worse.

2. I was going to say that
I live in California and I don't think there's a station in the state that isn't pre pay.

5. Yep.. No Pay..no work
But in some small towns around the country, there are probably some stations that still have the old style pumps..

Out here the environmental regulations forced all the stations to remove their old underground tanks and replace them with newer leakproof ones (MTBE scare), so the small independents closed up and the big chain stations put in all new equipment

6. I thought this would be easy to deter, too.
I don't understand why they don't make all the pumps pre-pay. There are almost no pumps here currently pre-pay in Kansas. It is not a big deal here, until the price goes up.
