that very religious, extremist people tend to view other people, especially their own family members, as objects. Because they dehumanize people they can conduct perverted and painful acts on others with little concern. It is not just the extremely religious, but people who take other philosophies to the extreme as well. That is my theory and I'm sticking to it.

Or rather tendencies and drives that certain people have are socially unacceptable. These traits the people do not choose to have. They are burdened with them. And as they find stress from the conflict between their own desires and societies structures they will seek to aleviate it.

To this end some try to move to the extreme opposites of what they percieve as their demons. They turn to extreme forms of religious belief. They seek platforms to speak out against those that act on the desires they share.
