Have you all seen this? Secret US plans for Iraq's oil
Randi Rhodes read excerpts on the air yesterday:

The Bush administration made plans for war and for Iraq's oil before the 9/11 attacks, sparking a policy battle between neo-cons and Big Oil, BBC's Newsnight has revealed.

Two years ago today - when President George Bush announced US, British and Allied forces would begin to bomb Baghdad - protesters claimed the US had a secret plan for Iraq's oil once Saddam had been conquered.

In fact there were two conflicting plans, setting off a hidden policy war between neo-conservatives at the Pentagon, on one side, versus a combination of "Big Oil" executives and US State Department "pragmatists".

Big Oil" appears to have won. The latest plan, obtained by Newsnight from the US State Department was, we learned, drafted with the help of American oil industry consultants.

Insiders told Newsnight that planning began "within weeks" of Bush's first taking office in 2001, long before the September 11th attack on the US.

1. Why, yes I have
what I HAVEN'T seen is any mention of this damning story of the base avarice and greed of the neocons in the mainstream media. There is also a significant lack of outrage about this.

I wonder why that is?

The Neocons aren't interested in the oil profits. There is no greed with them only power and idology. They want to privatize the fields and sell the oil cheap to hurt OPEC and help Israel.

The oil companies didn't want to privatize, they wanted the oil prices high. They won.

2. yep, seen it
Nothing surprises me. Bush had plans to steal Iraq in June of 2000.

This is not a fluke people. The MACHINE is rolling. It's all part of a plan. It's a big party for those with power and money. A BIG PARTY - and you're not invited!

4. Excellant anology, osiristz, MSM = Barney
I think of them as carrier pigeons. They just carry the approve message. Barney-like is another good point; working in front of the camera to dumb down the populace.

Welcome to the DU :hi:

7. This has always been about oil - and "Peak Oil" has happened!
Edited on Sat Mar-19-05 12:44 PM by Coastie for Truth
Read about "Peak Oil" in

1. Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil, Money, and Power by Daniel Yergin
2. Out of Gas: The End of the Age of Oil by David Goodstein
3. Hubbert's Peak : The Impending World Oil Shortage By: Kenneth S. Deffeyes

and for good reads on the petro-political complex, I would suggest
1. House of Bush, House of Saud: The Secret Relationship Between the World's Two Most Powerful Dynasties by Craig Unger
2. A Century Of War : Anglo-American Oil Politics and the New World Order by F. William Engdahl.

No secret. This was as predictable as the sunrise of the morning following the sunset of the evening - especially after our hysterical over reaction to Three Mile Island - and making licensing of nuclear plants a political Litmus Test and a life long exercise in environmental litigation - and making Yucca Mountain another political litmus test. This was always about oil -- and "Peak Oil" has happened.

Another good read (actually a CD) is "The End of Suburbia."

The dire prediction of continuous wars for oil has come true.

Just remember - you can be both "Pro-Nuclear Power" and a hard line, union-endorsed, ACLU Board member, liberal (Pennsylvania Assembly member and former Asst Secretary of Energy Ivan Itkin, PhD). They are not mutually inconsistent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
