CNN runs ad on conservative websites--seeking news interns!
CNN is recruiting for interns at CNN news on two conservative websites run by the Liberty Institute, a far right-wing neoconservative entity. It seems that CNN is a campaign to out right-wing Faux News. Not only do we have government sponsored propaganda being aired as "news", but now CNN is openly TRYING to recruit biased journalism interns.

This raises the "propaganda/fake news" scandal to new heights. This violates the public trust as well as journalistic ethics.

Please help mount a national campaign. We need calls and letters to CNN and to its parent company, Time Warner. Write letters to the NY Times and Washington Post editors, as well as local newspaper editors. (I just talked my local paper into running a full-blown editorial against "fake news.") Complain to the FCC. Notify all of the media watchdog groups. Post this notice at every liberal blog on the planet. Get your local progressive organizations involved, please!

3. Thanks for the Kick. Can someone post this on DailyKos?
I posted at Democrats.com.

Does anyone know a direct line to reach David Brock at Media Matters?

23. See post 21 for links.
The jobs are listed here. If CNN didn't post them directly, they should ask this partisan website to take down the listings and not post any other CNN jobs.

FYI, this is the same outfit that "trained" Jeff Gannon, the gay hooker in the White House Press Corps!

5. Doesn't look so much like CNN posted the ads there,
as these sites went crawling for job postings all over the place and linked them to their site.

But this page Is scary and funny all at the same time:

24. Yes, you're right! Gannon was "trained" at the Liberty Institute!
Edited on Sat Mar-19-05 04:49 PM by Liberty Belle
I check some clips and it's the same outfit. So this is clearly not a reputable site for any network to be running ads, or even allowing its ads to be posted. They should all contact this site and demand that their ads be taken down.

More info on the Gannon-Liberty Institute connection:

6. I couldn't find
CNN in the job list? What am I missing?

I did find my local CBS, Albany though.

Is there a comparable liberal recruiting site, not that it would make it the right thing to do, I was just wondering.

All the broadcasters there, this is definitive evidence that they are in the pocket of the gop. I'm also sending this to mediamatters.org. If anyone David can bring this to the light of day.

13. This is a Repuke recruiting scam
Edited on Sat Mar-19-05 02:53 PM by Cattledog
Denise Chaykun - recruiter-

dchaykun@limail.us

The address given:

1101 N Highland St
Arlington, VA
22201

is for the "Clarendon Grill" a meeting place for Va8GOP. Virginia's 8th Congressional District Republican Committee. It is also the address for the "Leadership Institute". They must be in the basement.

The recruiter's email tipped me off since it is NOT a CNN address.

If it was it would be ...@cnn.com or ...@turner.com

This is just a freeper way of getting wingnuts to apply and infiltrate. Lets all email her!

11. This is just another Monster.com calling itself ConservativeJobs.com
Sorry, but I don't see any requirements or descriptions of conservative bias in any of the job listings. Someone could just as well create a site ProgressiveJobs.com or LiberalJobs.com and post the exact same listings. (I didn't check)

I do see it as a way to get more conservatives to apply for jobs in the media. There are other groups out there trying to recruit more conservatives in academia as well.

I do agree that CNN has made some effort to present itself with less of a "left" leaning bias because of the high Faux news ratings. I've been watching MSNBC and NBC more because of it.

12. They shouldn't be recruiting on
a specifically conservative site. They shouldn't recruit on a liberal or progressive site either. If there is truly no bias this should not be considered a part of the hiring at all. We don't need a conservative media or a liberal media, we need an honest media that will report the truth, all of it. Fortunately the truth is on our side.

Edited on Sat Mar-19-05 02:32 PM by mcscajun
rather, the conservative website might be using a webcrawler to find all these postings elsewhere and consolidate them for their readers.

If you look at the entire field of job listings, everything seems to be there, not just media, not just CNN. I still haven't seen anything that would make me think every employer listed there are all 'going Con' or actively recruiting based on politics.

17. Your theory of a web crawler could explain this. I hadn't thought of that
but it would be interested for David Brock to ask for an explanation from CNN and any other news organizations with ads posted at this site. Since networks are supposed to want people without strong political biases, they ought to inform whoever runs this site that they do NOT want their jobs listed there.

16. Bingo. Recruiting should be done at bona fide journalism sites:
American Society of Journalists and Authors, Society of Professional Journalists, journalism school departments, National Writers Union, Mediabistro.com, etc.

21. My letter to CNN
For those who found other media outlets' jobs listed at Liberty Institute, please send me the listings and also help by sending letters to the media contacts listed in the job listings. Here's my letter to CNN:

Dear Ms. Chaykun:

I'm the media director of Democracy for San Diego. I am writing because a member of our local media team has discovered that your CNN news intern positions are being advertised at ConservativeJobs.com, a right-wing website run by the Liberty Institute. This is the right-wing pseudo-journalism "school" that produced Jeff Gannon, the gay prostitute found to be working in the White House Press corps for a GOP front group!

I find it highly inappropriate for a job listing at a cable news network to be advertised at a site guaranteed to attract right-wing biased individuals. In the interest of preserving a free and unbiased press, I ask that you contact the administrators of these sites and ask that these job listings be removed--and that no future CNN jobs be posted there.

Any news organization should be posting job listings only at bonafide, nonpartisan journalism sites, such as journalism departments at reputable journalism schools, the Society of Professional Journalists, the American Society of Journalists and Authors, and so forth.

We request an explanation, as well as your assurance that CNN and the Turner News Network will no longer allow job listings to be posted on partisan political websites or right-wing faux-journalism "schools." Links to your job listings at Liberty Instistute are provided below.

Sincerely,

Miriam Raftery
Media Chair
Democracy for San Diego

Edited on Sat Mar-19-05 05:57 PM by Cattledog
She works for the Leadership Institute as
Media Placement and Recruitment Coordinator and the Va 8th district GOP! She was even on the cover of the NY times mag on May 25, 2003 for an article called "Young Hipublicans."! She graduated Bucknell Class of ‘04. She was also president of the Bucknell University Conservative Club. She also edited the right wing paper "Counterweight" where she called herself the princess of editing. Here' a headline from the paper when she was there. "First Amendment Protects Even Blackface. "Here's her bio and picture.

27. Nuts, wish I'd seen that earlier. So why is she listed as a contact
for a job at CNN when she doesn't work for the Cable News Network?

I wonder if CNN knows that their job is listed at this site, and if they'd disapprove? Sounds like another letter is in order to someone who is actually affiliated with CNN.
