The reason I can never support the war in Iraq....
Because, I cannot bring myself to support someone whom I do not trust. And I do not trust those that have lied to me - especially when tens of thousands of people have been killed and maimed in the process. I cannot bring myself to say, "Never mind...it doesn't matter because it looks like things are going to turn out all right.."

It doesn't matter if Iraq turns into Sweden, it was wrong to lie and go to war then and it is still wrong today. No circumstances can change that. Thsoe that follow the lie and transform it to fit their support and rationale for the war are wrong, in my opinion. They are weak on principles and are immoral in their hearts. That's just my opinion.

1. Agreed. And it wasn't a last resort; bush KICKED OUT the UN weapons
inspectors before they were allowed to finish their work. That, right there, shows beyond ANY doubt that bush's war of aggression was NOT a last resort.

IMPATIENCE as a rationale for war? Bullshit.

And I don't ever recall hearing bush demand Hussein turn Iraq into a democracy or we'd attack; it was "WMD" that most the world and even the majority of Americans thought was bullshit before bush launched his illegal war of aggression.

Change excuses after the fact as often as they like; it makes no difference to the FACT that tens of thousands of human beings are dead and tens of thousands more are wounded for life, because of a pack of lies.

3. They have no rationale...
They supported a lie and a liar. That's the bottom line...they can spin it as much as they wish.

2. This is why Bill Maher pisses off many folks here lately
"Never mind...it doesn't matter because it looks like things are going to turn out all right.."

4. No need for any POTUS, (D) or (R), to bother giving any reason for war
in future.

The POTUS can just point at a nation & say to our troops, "Invade!"

After the war, Americans can come up with various justifications for invading. It's what they're doing now for Iraq; why bother with pre-justifications when pre-justifications don't mean anything anyways.

8. Centrist dissidents.
They can see that our foriegn policy is wrong, but refuse to draw the rational conclusions that the people making the policy have different goals than they do.

5. I try and look at it like Bushy was just covering up for the right wing
policies of the past. I mean it was Nixon, Bush Sr, Cheney, Rumsfield & Britain who so supported Saddam Hussein at first and like his chemical warfare stuff and the war against Iran (that killed many and hurt Iran who had kicked out the Strong man that USA put in Iran). So really, this whole thing is just a nightmare that USA right wing created (they created the Islamist Fundamentalists too by their tactics).

So take it too personal that Bush Jr does something to undo the horrors of Saddam Hussein. It is what Liberals the world over have been screaming for, for years. And talk to the people there.. and in Jordan..that has such a great reputation.. well the Kings there are just more strongmen and it is all CIA bullshit there.

So - Bushy trying to hide and undo the crimes of all the Repukes who came before him including daddy? Which is why bin Laden attacked the USA (to grow his Islamist movement the US helped start in Afghanistan).

History will be less kind to George Bush. Relax. They have to come to a short term landing of their great American Myth. Then perhaps the people will have a chance to not die and live in democratic places (now that it will be encouraged by USA). Relax. History is on your side. The short term 'reality' is just to help it all end cleanly.

6. The only way...
Iraq will start to heal itself is WHEN the US leaves. The "elections" will not do anything, as they will have NO power over the occupation. Most of the Iraqis who voted did so because they wanted to get the US out.

I don't think you need to worry about the US helping Iraq. It will not happen.

7. I too could have been talked into invading Iraq
but the lies and the constant story changing and the spin and propoganda long ago outweighed the needs for this war, to a permanent no.

Not only that Iraq will be to the US what Afghanistan was to the USSR - it will bankrupt us or weakens us so much that if a real "necessary" fight comes up, we won't have resources.
