Rush says...
we think we're the smartest people in the room.

I've something to say to this and something to do. While trying to stay somewhat modest, I have to say, Aren't we? We know we're right and shouldn't be ashamed of it! He says it like it's an insult to be this smart. I say Let's call him on it!

Here's what to do. Let's designate a week to calling Rush and other RW freakshow hosts. I suggest a week in the end of April so we can get prepared.

This is the game plan. There will be no official topic to call about. Anyone who wants to call should pick their own topic that suits their strengths the best. Have some facts on hand. Don't misrepresent yourself to the screener or you won't be able to talk about your topic(s).

Here's the point: Rash has so many listeners, but we can use his popularity to get our position out. If we could convince just 1%, that would be a lot. We don't have our own radio show, but we can use theirs. We can bring our facts to combat his LIES! We won't convince him (duh) but that's not the objective. We're talking to his audience. If we hammer him for a week, we'll be heard by somebody.

LET"S DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1. How can we not think that? I mean, really?
I don't care about the "credentials" of Bush supporters.

Anyone who falls for his and the GOP's bullshit and lies is either very dishonest or is a complete idiot.

I don't respect Bush supporters. At all.

15. Hey Comer
I don't think I could actually listen to Rush long enough to make a call. Since I got a satellite radio, I listen to AAR and don't think I could stand even 5 minutes of Rush.

5. Sounds like Rush is whipping up his base again
America, especially conservative America, has always had a strong anti-intellectual bias running throughout its culture. Rush and other RW mouthpieces have perfected the art of bashing intelligence to a high degree. He is just continuing to feed his listeners red meat in order to make them feel superior, while his conservative, corporate masters continue to fleece them of their very last dime.

This anti-intellectual bias was a strong sub current throughout the entire election last year. Kerry was portrayed as the Godless, ivory tower intellectual, while Bush was portrayed as a folksy, somewhat slow, everyman.

6. Slim to no chance
If you do get past Snerdley, Rush likes to surreptitiously lean on the mute button, pretending his oracular bombast has stunned you speechless.

Perhaps the plan should include pretending to be real dumb when talking with the screener before hand. Otherwise, I doubt many of us would get on there.

on edit: spelling

9. But if you don't misrepresent yourself to his screeners...
Edited on Tue Mar-29-05 12:46 PM by JHB
...you won't get on either.

You're forgetting that Rush controls our access to his show. His show is a sealed environment -- it's rigged so he'll "win" any fight. The only "liberals" he lets on the air are ones who feed his stereotype and which he can beat up on easily. "Going for his audience" on his show is an exercise in futility, because he has it set up so that no one can damage his credibility (to his listeners) enough that he can't repair it through displays of outrage and pure BS.

If you want to win fights, you pick your battleground carefully, if at all possible. Don't storm a fortress when you can island-hop around it and eventually cut off it's supplies.

And welcome to DU. :toast:

10. fun with hate radio
This site is hysterical and has some useful tips for getting past the screeners. Then he has transcripts from his call ins-- my favorite is his call to the stacy taylor show.

http://freewayblogger.com/funwithhateradio.htm

A fun and easy way to get your message out to thousands, even millions of people, is through the medium of talk radio. Although firmly in the trenches of the right, it's still possible to get a liberal point of view onto the airwaves by following these easy steps:

1) When the screener asks you what you want to talk about, be sure and tell them something relatively innocuous but tangentially relatable to the point you want to make.

2) If possible, use a slightly southern or hick accent - they're more likely to put you on and the AM audience is more likely to relate to you.

3) Don't go straight to your main point - get there incrementally. Remember there's a seven-second delay and they'll cut you off if you go to

12. Great Line in the Movie "Tombstone"
by the Doc Holliday character, played by Val Kilmer. After beating Ike Clanton at cards, Doc says:

"Well, Ike, it appears pokuh is not your game. How about a spellin' contest?" He then laughs in Ike's face. Like we should do to the idiots on the other side.

13. You go ahead.
I have better things to do than call a liar who hops himself up on Hillbilly Heroin then thinks he's above the law.

As for the smart thing, that means rush is saying the right wing is stupid?

I'd agree with that.

17. That's not the reaction I'd hoped for.
Lots of people listen to Rush who aren't fully in his camp. We can get on if we just try. Talking to ourselves within our own forums (however satisfying) isn't going to do the job that needs doing. Can you imagine posting here about an on-air episode you'd just had with Rash? Win or lose, it would be fun. If Rush shuts you down, don't you think somebody out there would notice? We have NOTHING to lose by trying. We have everything to lose by staying silent. 1 (800) 282-2882

And thanks for making me feel welcome. I have dial up, so can't listen on line. Is AAR on the airwaves?

20. Shanti didn't read
I never suggested that we care what Rash thinks or try to convince him. Can we convert any of his listeners with what we say here? Are they coming here to get the other side? We need to go to them. It's called reaching out and used to be something those on our side were good at. Or are we too young to remember?
