How Come Jon STEWERT Trashed Crossfire, But Not LIMBOsevic?
Edited on Sat Apr-02-05 07:27 PM by UTUSN
It was an iconic moment of our pop political culture when Jon STEWERT went on Crossfire and trashed Tucker CARLSON. At the time it seemed right. But what was the outcome? The cable suits jumped on the bandwagon and are cancelling it and The Capital Gang.

So, yeah, the yelling and screaming was nerve-wracking and infuriating. But we had "our" guys at least holding their own and often thoroughly thrashing the forces of darkness.

Crossfire and Capital Gang were dinky little shows for political junkie and wonkie nerds like us. At least we got part of the action for our side. The original spawner of all hate and "hurt" is LIMBOsevic and his legion of flying monkeys, WHICH WILL CONTINUE UNABATED and untrashed by Jon. He picked on the little guys and did not even take a whiff in the air against LIMBOsevic.

Jon STEWERT is in my pantheon of good guys, so this is not a bash. I don't watch TDS every SINGLE DAY, but love it when I do. Just saying, unintended consequences in what he did?

1. Home come?
What does that mean?

Anyway, Stewart made his point fine when he bashed Crossfire. Since Crossfire is considered the pioneer of this type of TV 'news' program, it would've been mundane to list every show whose sole purpose is to futher polarize the electorate.

3. He wasn't guesting on Limbaugh, like he was on Crossfire.
If he were I'm sure he would have gotten his salvos in. Also, since Crossfire and The Capital Gang, had Bob Novak as one of their producers, maybe we will be seeing less of him from now on.

4. Perhaps
because he had an opportunity to be on Crossfire and no opportunity to be on Limbaugh? He called it right -- it was political theater and absolutely meaningless. At least with Limbaugh you know he isn't objective going in. Crossfire (along with many other talking head/debate shows) attempted to project the illusion of balance. It wasn't about honestly discussing issues though, it was all about the verbal brawl. It didn't even have the excuse of being educational because rarely was a point brought up that hadn't been made elsewhere a hundred times before.

As far as unintended consequences, I doubt it. Likely it was already slated to be cancelled before Stewart made his appearance and besides, CNN is not the place to learn about the world (anymore).

5. CNN is changing into an "entertainment hard news" channel
Stewart is not the reason the show was cancelled. CNN is a horrible news network. The merger between Time Warner and AOL created alot of debt, so CNN had to fire their most-seasoned reporters in order to pay down the debt created by the merger. CNN is going to start broadcasting shows that are more like Oprah Winfrey and Entertainment Tonight. It's tragic. Look for more "happy-pappy" talk and idle chatter from their hosts.

6. Because Crossfire pretended to give opposing views but they
didn't and were just a shoutfest. Limbo doesn't EVER pretend to give opposing views.
