The Religion of Liberalism

"We need to create a gay religion. A religion that specifically and explicitly embraces gayness and states that it is the way God wants all people to live.

Then, we need to get condescending. Tut tut at evangelicals and tell them that I'd never approve of their lifestyle because it's not what the Goddess wants. Try and convert people at work. Demand large sums of government money. Do everything that fundies do every day. Watch the fur fly.

Then when action is taken against us, sue under the laws the fundies set up for themselves based on religious discrimination.

Under the "Religious Freedom Act," for instance, state that an employer isn't reasonably accommodating your gay religious beliefs by refusing to offer DP benefits. Claim to be having your religious beliefs violated if a boss in a red state fires or discriminates on sexual orientation.

Reap and leverage the laws of unintended consequences to give the fundies and their milquetoast "moderate Dem" supporters heartburn. If they try and make the new laws "for Christians only," even conservative courts will strike the laws out entirely. And if they try and keep them as they are, they create an "intolerable situation" -- the special rights they want for themselves being leveraged by anyone who has any belief they define as 'religious.'"

To help the Revolution, we need a religion. I'm not promoting mass-conversions, but a group banner if you will.

What I am proposing, thanks to Brian_Expat, is to take his idea and run with it. I want to create a collective religion for Liberals and other like-minded people. Many RW'ers are passing laws in which they are granted new powers because of their religion.

This collective will be a group of Christians, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, and other people.

The beliefs of the Collective are:

1. God or Higher Power loves GLBT people and accepts them

2. God does not accept the Religious Right and has no connection with them at all

3. George W. Bush is not holy

4. Separation of Church and State

5. Women, being the goddesses they are, should have power and the right to maintain their body the way they want

6. Obviously, we would be very strong on supporting Interfaith groups

If GLBT people or Liberals join, discrimination against them would be illegal.

You know what? I'm serious about this, who wants to create the religion of Liberalism, the Collective?

(P.S. - The 'Collective' is a creepy name, if you have a better idea as to what the name should be, please say it)
