Parents Are Organizing Against The Military Draft Now!

Parents Against Military Slavery
The Time to Oppose the Draft is Now
By KEVIN ZEESE

In February, the Army missed its recruiting goal for the first time in nearly five years. The Army missed its March goal by 32 percent while the need for soldiers is on the rise. The United States Armed Services have announced a new plan to solve their recruiting problems--convincing parents to get their children to enlist. At the same time, parents are organizing to ensure the military draft does not return. The battle lines for the bodies of America's youth are beginning to take shape.

Terry McCarthy of Parents Against a Draft told me: "It is up to us to convince those politicians advocating an increase in the military, especially by reinstating a draft, that this position will lead to their defeat at the polls. These politicians are completely out of touch with Americans." Their Web site includes ideas about how parents can get organized to prevent the return of the draft.

On the discussion group of another organization, Mothers Against the Draft, described how recruiters are figuring out whom to recruit: "Recruiters are giving our kids a special 'aptitude' test (ASVAB) WITHOUT parental consent, thanks to No Child Left Behind; at my daughter's high school in Nashville, the guidance counselor said 'this is not for recruitment,' yet a uniformed recruiter was in charge. Kids were told that this test was merely 'a great way to learn what your talents are, and what kind of career might be best for you in the future.'

Another parent active with Parents Against a Draft, Diane Fosse, said what is probably on a lot of parents minds in an interview with me: "What is most important to me is making all Americans aware that a draft is a very real possibility and that more and more young Americans will be sacrificed if there is a draft, not in a war like World War II that had to be fought, but so the U.S. can attack other countries and force democracy on those countries. True democracy and freedom cannot be forced on countries. What we are doing now is not creating friends and allies, but making more and more enemies for the U.S. This certainly does not make us safer from terrorists."

1. This is horrifying.

7. Hey! Isn't that what they told Shrub he would be?
With all the news about his Ipod, it sounds like he still wants to be one.

4. I'm getting scared
I'm from a large family and have many nieces, nephews and friends who are at the age to be drafted. So yes we have to do something.

5. Organize!
I hope they and many others join one of the parent groups against the draft listed on the first post. This needs to become a very, very big movement. Please visit those websites.

Thanks

6. If you voted for Bush, you or a family member should be required to
back him up by enlisting. (Including the Bush daughters.) All Kerry and third party supporters should be exempt!

In all honesty, I shudder at the thought of my oldest child, age 9, being drafted. I'm so glad to hear there are other parents out there willing to stand up to Bushco and fight for their children's lives!

8. Thank you for posting that, ItstheTruth.
I saw this late last night but acted today:

I went to the first link and noted the groups that offer guest speakers…
Then I went to the 2nd : Mothers Against The Draft
http://mothersagainstthedraft.org /
and signed the petition, e-mailed it to my state Reps, and forwarded it to my friends and family. I’m sure, like many of you here - none of my Reps have responded to the survey. Then I bookmarked the 3rd
All in less than 3 minutes !

I also ripped the following from www.mothersagainstthedraft.org to print and mail to my Reps:

As a Mother, Wife (my husband served during Desert Storm) and Sister ( I have 2 brothers who are currently serving in the military,) I strongly object to the re-institution of a military draft or any other form of mandatory national service, including the "back-door draft" which extends the military duty of those who have volunteered to serve our country beyond the termination date of their enlistment contract.

Our nation's Constitution enumerates the powers "We the People" gave to Congress. And in spite of the claims of previous Congresses and Courts, nowhere have you been given legitimate authority to "draft" the citizens you have been elected to serve.

For Congress to even consider depriving Americans of their most fundamental liberties by forcing them into service under the banner of “defending freedom” and “eliminating tyranny” is itself tyranny.

Our military is seriously overstretched. I urge you to immediately re-evaluate our commitments and bring forward solutions that respect the God-given rights of the American people and promote peace with the nations of the world.

In addition, I call upon you to make clear your position on the draft and urge you to stand with me by solemnly pledging to do all within your power to oppose any legislation or regulation that imposes a draft.

Sincerely,
My Name
