Poll question: Are You Watching Less TV Than In 2000?
Edited on Tue Apr-12-05 04:53 PM by Plaid Adder
I'm just curious: compared to the pre-Chimp days, how have your viewing habits changed?

1. I watch a lot less since the Nov 2004 election
After the 2000 election, my viewing actually increased because I wanted to know everything * was trying to do to us. However, after Kerry conceded in Nov, I turned off the cable news networks and probably haven't watched more than an hour a week of them since.

2. I watch a lot more PBS, and use the computer more
I think I may get digital cable, there seems to be more quality programming like more Discovery, BBC type networks.

3. I watch C-Span 1 and 2, lots of TLC, E! (guilty pleasure), HGTV and WE.
My husband watches the Braves and the Falcons and TechTV. We don't watch any sitcoms. We spend more time online or playing video games.
Overall, I watch less TV and spend the time with my family and horse instead.

5. I watch a lot less, but I'm a lot busier too...
I'm working full-time, attending school part-time to get a history teaching certificate, and involved in probably more peace activism than I can handle.

Plus, the majority of stuff on TV is just pure pablum. Now, I'm conscious when I catch myself with remote in hand, channel surfing from the couch, that there are a lot better things that I can be doing. One thing I'm trying to instigate with my wife and I is that we sit down each week and figure out the shows we really want to watch -- especially during the week -- and leave the TV off at other times.

Oh, and I don't watch ANY cable news anymore, and spend a higher percentage of my viewing time watching PBS.

6. I have filtered out channels with my remote
I have no cable news channels, religious programming or shopping networks. It is total bliss and I'm sure that my blood pressure thanks me for it.

7. I can't say I've eliminated channels
I never watched thsoe channels anyway - but in the last 2 years i got Tivo which changed my habits considerably. I can save programs and watch them when I feel like so I think i am watching a bit more, but I am a lot more selective in what I watch.

12. Me, too.
TiVo allows me to watch not more television, but better television.

I love my TiVo!

8. I find I can no longer stomach poodle press broadcasting...
I can't stand to watch the news except to get the weather and local in the morning.
I used to watch evening news, and some cable news...like CNN, all the time.
Just have a low tolerance for state-sponsored propaganda.

All the news i need I get right here at DU.

9. I spend most of my free time on DU and listeing to AAR
There are only a couple of shows that are must see's for me, other than that I don't even turn the thing on. I never watch the news unless it is for sports or weather. It's all about the internets for me

10. Didn't watch it then, don't watch it now. This was written 30 yrs ago,
nary a truer word has been spoken, and I highly recommend killing your television, especially if you have children:

I am gross and perverted
I'm obsessed 'n deranged
I have existed for years
But very little had changed
I am the tool of the Government
And industry too
For I am destined to rule
And regulate you
I may be vile and pernicious
But you can't look away
I make you think I'm delicious
With the stuff that I say
I am the best you can get
Have you guessed me yet?
I am the slime oozin' out
From your TV set
You will obey me while I lead you
And eat the garbage that I feed you
Until the day that we don't need you
Don't go for help...no one will heed you
Your mind is totally controlled
It has been stuffed into my mold
And you will do as you are told
Until the rights to you are sold
That's right, folks.. Don't touch that dial
Well, I am the slime from your video
Oozin' along on your livingroom floor
I am the slime from your video
Can't stop the slime, people, lookit me go

(I'm The Slime, by Frank Zappa)

It's the only way to find out what's going on in our government. I can't remember the last time I watched CNN and MSNBC. I haven't watched FAUX NEWS since the idiot-in-chief stole the 2000 election. I couldn't STAND their blatant gloating. I will ocassionally watch broadcast networks, but not often.
