It's time to get HARDCORE!

The right wing will not be satisfied until they have absolute power with no checks and balances. As we have seen today, they are using religion as a tool to try to make this happen. They don't like it when the minority speaks up. They don't like it when one of their laws gets struck down by judges who are just following the Constitution. They want to destroy the judicial branch and silence the minority. That is what this whole nuclear option is all about.

Unfortunately, too many moderates and libertarians banded together with the religious right last November. Libertarians are the opposites of the religious right on social issues, yet they supported them anyway. Some non-political types may have felt that Bush was somebody they would like to "have a beer with" and they made an uninformed vote. Whatever the case may be, the other side has banded together against us. Now it's time to return the favor..

I'm urging everybody reading this to support civil liberties groups. I became a monthly donor to the ACLU and PFAW last November for obvious reasons. Do I always agree with the ACLU? Not always. In fact, a few years ago I didn't like them at all! Part of that was that I didn't realize how much I agreed with them. Groups like the ACLU, PFAW, and Americans United are the enemies of the religious right. Once again, I'm urging all DUers to support these groups, and let them know why you're supporting them if you talk to them on the phone.

I don't think the nuclear option will get the votes it needs, but if it does, I hope Harry Reid shuts down the Senate! This current brand of conservatism is divisive, mean-spirited, dishonet, and dangerous. It needs to be stopped dead in its tracks! It's time to get hardcore!
