Pic of me at Freedom and Faith today (prebuttal to Injustice Sunday)
Edited on Mon Apr-25-05 12:07 AM by Roland99

(last pew...toward the bottom-right...orange shirt)

:D

It was a love-fest going on in there and it was great to hear Jim Wallis speak. I really need to get his book: God's Politics

BTW, a Chicago Tribune writer was behind me in the Press Row and he mentioned someone from the Injustice Sunday scheduled a press conference that he would only be availabe at 2:30 (the scheduled start time for Freedom and Faith) so that the press would be hauled away from Central Presbyterian out to the mini-Six Flags Over Jesus. I think that ended up being Pickering.

1. Lucky You!
I'm highly considering an invite to a local United Church of Christ. The one w/the commerical that CBS refused to air.

Glad you enjoyed the love-fest. Better then the hate-fest in KY.

6. They're a pretty good church
I'm apart of the Church of Christ and it's basically the same thing. They left us a few years ago and formed the UCC. Both are non-partisian even though my church has a lot of Bush people in it. :eyes: But my preacher has never talked about politics except once when he asked why there had to be any left/right thing at all. Them not accepting that ad to play was just nonsense. Made me so mad.

11. Basically the same thing?
My grandparents are Church of Christ and they are very fundie. Does the C of C allow homosexual people to be members, or do they have to repent of their sin of homosexuality and get right with G-d? How do members of the C of C view what the Bible says about abortion? Unless you're a part that's a "Church of Christ" in name only, then I know for a fact they believe and teach these things to be sins.

No, the UCC and the Church of Christ are miles apart.

2. Nice crowd!
I'm glad there were other things going on to rebuttle that nonsense. You look cute from what I can see. ;)

3. Plenty of press was there, too

Oh...and...

I have some video of some of the speakers but I just can't get it captured to my HTPC. :(

Will try again tomorrow.

5. I was quite impressed with the speakers and the members of the crowd
The woman to my left is a Sociology professor at Jefferson Community College. The gentlemen who was to her left is a minister who ended up being interviewed by the Chicago Tribune writer.

Myself, I'm an atheist but I have to say my faith in Christianity in America was restored a bit today. Just hope other progressive/moderate churches speak up and speak out!
