Famous Quotes of Barry Goldwater - A Real Conservative
Not the mindless theocrates that have hijacked the GOP.

Now those who seek absolute power, even though they seek it to do what they regard as good, are simply demanding the right to enforce their own version of heaven on earth, and let me remind you they are the very ones who always create the most hellish tyranny.

Religious factions will go on imposing their will on others unless the decent people connected to them recognize that religion has no place in public policy. They must learn to make their views known without trying to make their views the only alternatives.

I think every good Christian ought to kick Falwell's ass.

Barry was right, if the Christian right is left to go uncheck, a hellish tyranny is what we are facing today.

4. I think he was referring to the hypocrisy of Falwell's message
Jesus also said "Love thy neighbor," but Rev. Falwell is busy talking about the evils of Islam and Judaism.

2. "The Constitution says that all men are created equal,
"The Constitution says that all men are created equal, and it doesn't say that all men are created equal except for gays. Just like everyone else who is born in this country, gays are endowed by their creator, God, with inalienable rights, and among those are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. At birth, whether your are born in Russia, Cuba, South America, or New York, you are born equal. The difference is that our babies grow up to live free." -Barry Goldwater, July 7, 1998

3. Well it's a bargain he and his followers helped forge
So I don't feel too sorry for him. His campaign was about feeding a sense of resentment in white middle class America, particularly in the south, and that resentment still has deep inroads in the Republican Party, and particularly the religious right.
