Gary Bauer on Prayer in School, Homosexuality, & the 10 Commandments:
...gary bauer, who trolls here at DU for shocking headlines he can use against us, and who is with the infamous 'family research council' and who is one of the authors of the nazi inspired 'project for a new american century', has some interesting things to say. enjoy.

oh and gary, thanks again for dropping by asshole.

http://www.issues2000.org/Celeb/Gary_Bauer_Civil_Rights.htm

If not prayer, recite Declaration
Bauer says if schoolchildren can’t begin their day with a prayer, then they should recite their Declaration of Independence. “It would accomplish the same thing,” said Bauer. He would select the passage that begins, “We hold these truths to be self-evident..” Bauer added, “It would remind all of our students that God is the author of our liberties and that nobody can take that liberty away. And since it is in the founding documents, I don’t see how the ACLU could object.”

The law recognizes and encourages heterosexuality
“In America, you’re given a great degree of choices on how you live. But when it comes to what the law recognizes and wants to encourage, it should be the intact family that brings a man and a woman together in marriage,” he said. “Quite frankly, I’m surprised that as young people who are wrestling with economic issues, and have experienced family breakdowns yourselves, that what you would be primed for today in talking to me is to promote the demands of the gay rights movement.”

Posting Ten Commandments will reduce crime
Gary Bauer took partial credit for . “I believe if more American children read the Ten Commandments and are taught what they mean, they will predictably engage in less crime,” he said, noting the sentiment for religion in the schools after the recent student massacre in Colorado. “I went to Littleton, Colo.,” Bauer said. “What you see are little handmade signs everywhere, ‘Let our children pray,’ and ‘Bring religion back in to our schools.’”

4. Mr. Bauer, how many of the 10 commandments are laws?
2 by my count - killing and stealing. There are no laws to honor your mother & father, or to prohibit lying (else you'd be out of work) or to keep holy the sabbath.
On the other hand there are no commandments to prohibit homosexuality or specifically stop abortion or to pray at every state sponsored event. I think youse guys are making some things up about what's in the bible or the 10 commandments etc.
Why don't youse guys all band together and take over a small island nation where youse can practise your brand of 'democracy ' and leave us alone? And take W with you, he's a leader and a uniter.

7. Dear Mr. Bauer
1. Kids can pray before they come to school. Before, after or during breakfast. There is no need for them to do so in a public school. In a private school, they can pray all day if they want to, and what kid wouldn't welcome that opportunity?

2. Homosexulaity will always exist. Get over it.

3. The Ten Commandments do not prevent people from worshipping stains on cement beneath overpasses. While this only blocks traffic and irritates drivers it is expressly forbidden in commandment #2. 'You shall not make for yourself a carved image--any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.' So why don't you focus on that, instead of wasting time.

9. Actually
Kids can pray in school. What was banned was teachers and admins leading prayer. As long as the kid doesn't interuppt class, they can pray till Buddha returns.

10. The Pledge is "in the founding documents"?
Is he a) on crack, or is b) he just an ignorant fuckwit? (There is also a possibility of c) both.) The Pledge was written in 1892. The Constitution, Bill of Rights, Declaration of Independence - these are our founding documents. Gary, dipshit, they were written just a TAD earlier than the Pledge.

I might also point out to Mr. Dingbat Bauer that Francis Bellamy, the Pledge's author, was both a Baptist minister and a Socialist. And here's the Pledge's original text: 'I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.'

Will you show me, oh Gary, where in that original text it says ANYTHING about God being the author of our liberties?

*crickets chirping*

12. The most amusing part of his statements is the 10 Commandments
should be posted to remind people of what they are.

Gary, I'd really like for you to do some public service work with the Gov't Family Service departments who deal with troubled homes and children EVERYDAY! I'd also like you to volunteer to work with some prison counceling groups. I don't disagree that the world would be better if everyone followed the good teachings, no matter what their religion is, but you really need to be doused into the world of reality. A young kid isn't thinking about wether it's right or wrong when he sells drugs on a corner. He's thinking about that $1,000 a week or a day if he's good at it! I want you to find a way to convince him he's wrong, cause, other than saying "you're breaking the law and could get caught, I simply don't have a reason for him. The guy or gal who in prison because they committed robbery, murder, assault, or 1,000 other crimes wouldn't have been swayed by tripping over a monument displaying the 10 Commandments.

It's wonderful to dream of a lot of things life can bring you. At some point you really have to face reality!

16. If they have to be posted then I didn't do my job
I'm a Sunday School teacher. If they leave my class not knowing the 10 Commandments, it's on me.

Which reminds me. Y'all ever seen this candy?

http://store1.yimg.com/I/christiandollarstore_1841_1054464

A verse on every wrapper. A cross on every candy.

Don't seem right somehow.

Lifestyles (the movie about "wife swapping" in various locations, to include Littleton, Colorado...and mind you, some of these people are conservative wife swappers )

..." Right now swingers - conservative and suburban as they are-are the vanguard of our ongoing American revolution to encourage the pursuit of happiness and permit more personal freedom"

The swinging ain't the point...more power to them if that's what does it for them...but what about the sanctity of marriage? Adultery? Family values? I mean , golly, what will the children think? (Oh, yeah...they're busy praying at school) Whew! I'm sure glad Gays can't get married. (:sarcasm:)

My guess is some of the little handmade signs in Littleton read:

Swap Meet Tuesday @ Mona's and Ray's Place.

24. Eh, I was none to popular either in school either
In my case, it was part Navy brat and part my parents not agreeing on where to settle. Dad was from VA, mom from WI. Dad liked it better in WI, mom liked it better in VA.

First through fourth grade = VA
Fifth grade = WI
Sixth grade = VA
Seventh through twelveth grade = WI

Perpetual new kid, and petite hefty besides. Oh what fun.

But I don't want to take over the world. I just want the world to like me.

27. Somehow, we have got to start showing people
that what they advocate is essentially an overthrow of our governmental system (which is treason). Should we start getting more verbal on that angle with Joe Q Public? A religion by force is not freedom of religion.

28. Someone is going to have to explain the nature of sovereignty to him
A theocracy is where sovereignty is invested in the clergy.

A monarchy is where sovereignty is invested in an heir based line of succession often condoned by the church.

A democratic republic is where sovereignty resides in the people.
