His last holdup was Saturday, and it may be his last for a while - the police said he ran out of Andree Hair Braiding in Flatbush without his gun after the owner poured boiling water over his head.
After he pulled the gun and began collecting from the customers and the owner's younger sister, Sylvie Liehi, 31, Ms. Crawford spotted the kettle of boiling water used for dipping clients' hair as part of the braiding process. In French, she asked her sister if she should do something. "She said 'yes,' and I threw the hot water on him," Ms. Crawford said.
Her sister hit him with a stool, and Ms. Crawford swung a chair, and the man dropped the gun and fled, she said. The police said it was a starter's pistol, which fires blanks.

It's quick, it's proportionate, it's just, and involves neither lawyers nor cops. Although they are certainly welcome to do their part later on.

They could have used that stool to bash his head inside out instead of letting him run away. I, for one, am glad Florida has a law where self defense is a right instead of making it a law to try all possible avenues of retreat or escape first. Criminals don't deserve that kind of consideration.

4. He was just stealing money, he wasn't hurting anyone. The boiling water

was a wonderful punishment.

It's just MONEY and stuff, geez.

Protect one's life by any means possible, by all means... but to kill or maim someone for stealing is far worse than the theft.

If he had just been rifling through the cashbox, it would have been excessive. But it was an armed robbery. People have occasionally died in armed robberies.

My point isn't that criminals should suffer maximum pain -- they should suffer some kind of pain from people they victimize without all the moralizing that usually goes on. The robber got scalded because he pulled an armed robbery and his victims defended themselves. Simple, fast, effective, and appropriate karma.
