Just heard on the Atlanta sports talk station this morning that...
government propaganda is a good thing. They were talking about the Tillman story, and how it was okay for the government to lie to us to feed American patriotism.

I was dumbfounded. Yes, it was sports talk, but I think it shows how a lot of Americans are okay with being ignorant and uneducated.

One of them asked the question, "Should the government have told us about the friendly fire incident?"

The other one 'answered', "No, I think Tillman was a hero". WTF!!! :banghead:

Oh yeah, this was all after they said "some in the blue states are in an uproar about this".

We are in an uproar about this because our government should never lie to us. It has nothing to do with Tillman being a hero(whether you believe this to be the case or not).

These guys went on about how we are always getting propoganda from our government... like they were okay with it.

Remember Nazi Germany anyone????

1. This will be particularly important
in the realm of economics in coming years.

Tens of millions of serfs will need to be reassured repeatedly that they are still "middle class."

2. Warning: Sweeping Generalization Content...
This is the second post in as many days on this board about someone commenting on sports talk guys right wing bent.

Is anyone REALLY surprised that grown men who make their living talking about other grown men playing sports are less than enlightened on political matters? Most guys I know who are THAT into sports are so at the exclusion of most other things, especially politics.

4. I've heard some thoughtful and intelligent political commentary
on sports talk radio. I don't recall the name of the host but I can say that not all of them are right-wing. I think that many of them are frustrated by the right-wing talk radio propaganda too. They can sneak in some intelligent political comments "under the radar" while discussing sports.

6. Sorry, But I've Heard The EXACT Opposite
The phrase in my sig line was heard on ESPN radio one morning. And, the guy's partner laughed and agreed. So, that was a host and cohost who took that short at Li'l Georgie, and both were in agreement.

It doesn't surprise me that SOME sport talk radio guys are conservatives. But, i think it's far more even than you think. WSCR in Chicago has shows in which more hosts are openly liberal and anti-Bush than the opposite. Maybe it's because it's bluestate, bluecity territory. Don't know. But, i know what i've heard!

7. I'm sure....like I said, I know it's a sweeping generalization..
..and as such is likely wrong. I'm just really not much of a sports guy so my perception of guys who don't play sports but devote their lives to it is admittedly more than a little skewed, biased, and just generally off.

9. I Understand
I know you gave your sweeping generalization alert. I understood. Just wanted you to know that there are openly anti-Bush sports guys out there. Another, btw, is Woody Paige. He's on ESPN's Cold Pizza, First & Ten, and Around The Horn. I've seen him on all 3 shows just hammering Li'l Georgie, while Skip Bayless fawns over Bush. I know which of those guys i like better!

3. Right after Sports Talk they'll tune into Boortz, Hannity and Rush.
Which station was this? I'm not at all surprised. There is a lot of political talk on sports radio these days. I live in GA and I can tell you that most of these bubbas are chickenhawks of the worst kind. I'll bet that each pro-propaganda caller has a truck or SUV plastered with W stickers and yellow flag magnets.

The only two Georgia residents that I know who've served in Iraq are a young black man (a friend of mine who joined up to get money for grad school) and an Hispanic man (severely injured, crippled for life).

5. These wingnuts are OK with the lying, cheating, etc.
as long as it furthers their own beliefs and agenda.

"The ends justify the means..."

But if one of "Us" lies about a BJ, they'll hound and whine into impeachment.

Typical hyprocracy.
