Why I'm proud to be a new DU'er

I'll try to keep this brief; keep the flattery to a minimum, and just cite a few examples.
-Yesterday, there were at least 3 posts concerning the anniversary of Kent State (not counting mine a couple days earlier). Numerous DU'ers shared their thoughts on the importance of those tragic events. I didn't see it even mentioned on the other liberal blogs I visited.
-I was touched by the responses to the photo of the US soldier holding the Iraqi child's body.
-Another post detailed a very clever way to shame those pinwheel-patriot-mobiles, by leaving this terrific note along with recruitment papers under their windshield wipers.
-These were just a few of the many worthwhile posts in just one day. Most of the replies and posts here convey to me a feeling of family that I don't feel as strongly on other blogs. When you work 40 hours a week, it's difficult to read many of the wonderful posts, let alone reply / post yourself. I may never reach the honored 1000+ posts plateau. Still, I just wanted to let you all know how proud I am to be a new member of the Democratic Underground.

I started lurking here out of curiosity prior to the last big non-election. As a senior citizen, retired military, tattooed, shaved head motorcycle riding registered republican I learned enough from reading posts and links to convince me a couple months ago I needed to register so I could thank you (all) properly. Thanks to you (all) I can present sound arguments to what I formerly thought of as gospel, without doubting.

I know better now, will re-register before the next local election cycle, and continue to amaze family members with tidbits I pick up here.

BTW - the prayer for children on another thread is outstanding.
