Because George Bush is President and I don't have a job.
I got a call from the Student Loan people today about my overdue student loan.

After the checking of information and the explaining about reporting to credit agencies after so many days, the caller asked if there was a reason I wasn't paying my loan.

I said: "Because George Bush is President and I don't have a job. Could you put that in my file, please?"

I was suprised when she literally cracked up laughing. I could tell she was covering her mouth to keep from laughing out loud. After a second to two, she stopped and said: "Excuse me, I need to compose myself." and kept giggling for another few seconds. She even went so far as to mute the sound on my end. When she came back on, she was every bit the professional and we finished our discussion quite amicably.

It made my day much better.

2. I'm gonna remember that too!
And TalkingDog, I'm so glad that you got the caller to laugh. That, in itself, must have been one of the most precious moments of your life......or at least since 11/99.

4. Because poppy bush was president
I couldn't find a job, now the student loan people have pretty much given up on me, especially when I let them know I'm just an old cripple surviving on ssi and couldn't pay a red cent to save my soul.

I had great expectations when I graduated, but, after taking three jobs where the first thing that happened was a script was shoved in my hand, I said fuck it and took my ssi.

You've got to have a good sense of humor when they call you, I mean a person feels bad enough not being able to repay an obligation, but getting into nasty matches with them doesn't help, and you can't win.

5. Tell them the loan papers are just "pieces of paper in a filing cabinet"
I hear that works when you want to ignore debt.
