Dennis Miller....Cancelled!
From CNBC boss, who tries to put a nice spin on it:

"<...> I have spoken with Dennis Miller about these plans <to extend business programming into prime time> and he has let me know that his strong preference is to leave his program immediately. Therefore, the final episode of "Dennis Miller" will air this Friday, May 13.

Dennis is an exceptionally talented comedian with an unmatched wit and he and his team consistently delivered a very entertaining program. I want to personally thank Dennis, Eddie Feldmann and their entire group. We are all very proud of their accomplishments and wish them nothing but the best for the future." link

1. Possibly the least funny program on MSNBC
and, on all of television.

I can regularly see funnier routines on CSPAN.

27. Me too. He annoys me mostly because
I used to watch him when he was sane. Once he went loco and started supporting Bush and all things right wing, I noticed really quick like that he is extremely obnoxious. Now, I can't seem to get away from the fucker when I do watch tv.

28. Gone on Friday the 13th?
Announced on Wednesday, gone on Friday? That's lightning quick in the TV biz, because usually a station wants to have something to replace the cancelled show, but what does CNBC have to run in Miller's spot? Ginzu knife ads? A titillating half hour with Ron Popeil demonstrating The Pocket Fisherman? The old Indian Chief test pattern?

And any one of those will pull more viewers than Dennis Miller.

> CNBC is expanding its Business Day programming: A new business program -- details TBA -- will premiere at 7pm sometime in Q3.

> Business-related programming will air on CNBC up until 10pm ET/7pm PT, so people across the country will have access to business news during their business day -- a significant shift from the "work hard, play hard" philosophy of airing Conan repeats at 7pm ET.

64. He was a complete ASSHOLE to Eric Alterman...
Edited on Wed May-11-05 06:52 PM by Cooley Hurd
...when he appeared on Miller's show. It was actually embarassing to watch because Miller looked like a childish fool.

Lemme see if I can find the clip on Google...

On edit - no sign of the clip, but here's a good description of what took place:

http://www.southknoxbubba.net/skblog/archive_2004_03.php

<snip>
After the introductions, Miller started off by saying that when he talks to people on the left he finds it important to get their definition of certain words, such as "mislead" (referring to Alterman's book, "The Book on Bush, How George W. (Mis)leads America)". Does mislead mean lie?

Not taking the bait, Alterman said he doesn't take a position on whether it's lying, it's just as scary that Bush might actually think he's telling the truth. But basically he has no regard for the truth, so it's sort of an existential question.

Miller then asked if Bush knew about 9/11 before it happened as Howard Dean had charged.

Alterman said Dean didn't really say that, but no, he (Alterman) did not believe that Bush had prior knowledge.

Miller asked, well, what was Dean saying then?

Alterman replied that he wasn't there to work for Howard Dean or defend his remarks.

Miller then asked well, what are you here to talk about then?

Alterman said I don't know. Nobody told me what we were going to talk about. I don't care what we talk about. We don't have to talk about anything. We can tell dirty jokes if you want.

Miller then started mocking him, laying over in his chair, acting like he was asleep, saying "You're pissed off. Why are you pissed off? This is all I'm getting from you", blah blah blah. "Gimme a question and I'll ask you a question" says Miller dismissively.

I thought Alterman was going to get up and walk out. He should have. It was downhill from there.

53. Does anyone recall his Leno appearance recently?
I know we talked about it on here.. actually, we laughed about it.

They were discussing politics, and Leno was getting ready to ask him a question. He got as far as .."you're a pretty conservative guy.."

And Miller cut him off with ..."only with this war!" He went on to say something about being non-partisan.

Think... think.. think.. Someone HAS to recall that..

I'm just wondering if he ticked off someone with that statement? (Even though none of here believed him)

58. I don't think its so much
The money. He's been rich since SNL yet he's only been shifting right the last 3-4 years or so. According to him, after 9/11 he had an epiphany and realized imperialism was good. Personally I think he realized he was just another left-wing comedian and a rather unfunny one at that and he knew that he would have to do something drastic to revive his career and so he shifted right and got his own TV show. Now that he realized that didn't work it'll be interesting to see what he does, with his Libertarian line, he may try to jump back on the bandwagon.

77. I had a discussion in
My media analysis class about his show after Alterman was on his show and said on his blog that he should've been given his time slot. I told them that Miller shouldn't even have a show anymore because he was getting just horrible ratings. My conservative classmate asked me in a condescending manner whether Alterman could do any better. What I told him was that I don't know how successful Alterman's show would be, because while he is extremely smart to say he lacks charisma is an understatement. But I told them that aif your using Miller ratings as a measuring stick, Alterman's show would be hugely successful, because other than Jon Stewart, Alterman would be the only real Liberal on Cable.

86. He lost his audience when he switched his politics
Let's face it-he uses long words, obscure references, and conservatives just aren't smart enough to follow him. He turned off the audience that was intelligent and well read enough to get his jokes and now he's got nothing.

He can always get born again and get a job with "The 700 Club". He'll probably get to see his old friend Victoria Jackson there every once in a while.

70. I'll bet a nickel that Bill Maher will have Miller on Real Time
by summer's end.

"Hey, Bill, we're both libertarians, and we both think bush did the right thing invading Iraq. Why don't the liberals get that?"

79. I knew his show was in trouble when he was on "Daily Show,"
and kept denying he was Republican...JUST a Libertarian. He was back-peddaling so hard. He was begging for ratings like a dog begs for a bone. It was pathetic.

And now to "go out" on Friday, the 13th! How appropos for the King of Mean.
