Hyundai customers say 'no' to Stern?

Report: Automaker's customers don't want Sirius because they don't want to listen to the shock jock.

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - A surprising number of Hyundai customers said they didn't want Sirius Satellite Radio installed in their vehicles because they objected to Howard Stern, according to an auto news Web site.

The so-called "shock jock" will broadcast on Sirius Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. beginning in January 2006, said Inside Line, an online news source that is part of Edmunds.com. Edmunds.com is a partner in CNN.com's automotive news and information channels.

Hyundai recently surveyed 300 to 400 customers as it was deciding whether to choose XM or Sirius Satellite Radio in as an option for its vehicles. Hyundai ultimately decided to go with XM.

Don't they know there are like 60 other channels they can listen to?
Won't they find something on XM that they will ultimately object to?

2. It sounds fishy, yes..
or it's a very weird coincidence. I mean, Hyundai isn't know for edgy extroverted cars but it seems a bit of a stretch to conclude their customers are so uniformly the same as the company profile.

5. I wonder WHY they asked if the owners wanted Sirius with H Stern.
Did they point out that there was "other entertainment" on Sirius?

I don't know how bright their customer base is.

8. At least you raised the average intellect of Hyundai Owners Of America.
By quite a bit, apparently.

7. Well...
a "lot" of people "wrote in" that they don't want Stern, and I assume it didn't occur to them that they didn't have to listen to Stern. No mention of how many, but it was obviously enough to impress Hyundai.

Somehow the word got out, and the publicity seems to have backfired on Sirius, who think that Stern is their new mealticket.

Howie just ain't that popular in some circles.

9. If they didn't put out this press release
saying that this is why they chose XM, then they wouldn't have gotten this story written about their product or any of this free publicity.

They probably chose XM for other factors, if they went with Sirius they could have just as easily issued a press release saying the reason they chose Sirius was because so many customers indicated they were fans of Howard Stern.

It looks as simple as that to me.
