Our Senators are afraid it will harm our troops if we went to war on Lie..
Saw John McCain on MSNBC this a.m. He said "we are selling Freedom and Democracy around the world." He talked about the Newsweek and the Abu Graeb prison abuse articles causing terrorist attacks where our troops and others are attacked.

In other words John McCain says we can't talk about Bush lying to Congress, or abuses our troops have been involved in because it will cause terrorist attacks. Bottom line is he's saying it's Un-American to question your president and all unfavorable news should be silenced. When did John McCain become a fascist?

But, this is why our Senators won't speak out about the memo. Because they think that it will increase terrorist attacks and they are afraid.
They are afraid for themselves and for our country.

John Conyers and 89 Congresspersons believe the "Truth Shall Set You Free" whereas the rest feel lying and covering up is the way to protect your butt.

4. It's not like we can silence the rest of the world.
Furthermore, the stories of the abuse were going to be known to the people of Iraq whether or not they were published by the U.S. press.

5. In my not so humble opinion, the true reason for this...
..."keeping the troops and the American People in the dark" is because then they would realize that the True reason we went to War was to fatten up the Military complex and War profiteers Bank accounts.
All this bullshit about "spreading Democracy" is just that..Bullshit..
These people have never cared about the plight of the poor or even the middle class (s), either here in America or anywhere else in the world. Why would anyone think that they would start now?...

6. "we are selling Freedom and Democracy around the world." But,
meanwhile, back at the ranch, selling-out freedom & Democracy at Home.

Is McCain a Gemini? 2-faced bastard.

So, if we'll just shut our pieholes, the Chimperer WILL have clothes and our "boys" will be safe?

Sorry Johnny, you are one bad pilot.

7. We are selling capitalism, free trade, trickle on economics, and
corporate power around the world. Freedom and democracy be damned--especially in the good ole Us of A. AND everyone of those frickin' legislators who refused to examine the arguments for war and continued to support it even in the face of evidence to the contrary, have blood on their hands. They aren't afraid anything more than losing their seats.

11. This whole affair is beginning to sound like a broken record...
For those of us who remember the LP days. :)

But each day I check the news and its the same old "same old." The Bushistas are trying desperately to sell the continuation of this war, this "freedom's on the march," and the "selling democracy 'round the world" bullshit is getting tiresome.

Meanwhile, the economy is tanking, jobs are moving overseas, Social Security is on the chopping block, the environment is threatened, medical care is a big "don't care," the judicial system is on the verge of being taken over by a theocracy, and all we hear from the corporate media is a narrow selection of hyped-up shilling designed to avert the nation's attention away from the real issues in order to perpetuate Bush's lies and deceit. I can't believe that so much time, expense, and effort is being spent to say so little.

13. McCain and Andrew Card seem to feel it's a "Marketing Campaign"
and America is a Corporation and they are the CEO's who are directing the Senior Product director in marketing "Freedom and Democracy" packaged up in a large empty box with shrink wrap with colorful labeling
that will attract the consumer.

That's what I got from what John McCain said. And, I realized what people like him think of the average American. We are nothing but "Consumers" to be used to sell products around the world. "Freedom and Democracy" being the latest one after "The Cold War."

17. Good analogy!
That about sums up this whole Bush Administration: market, package, and sell a product while the CEOs rip off the employees/customers...

12. For some reason, McCain has become the new voice of truth for the
Republican Party. He said the British papers about the war didn't matter - end of subject. Now this.

For for some odd reason, nobody believes Colin Powell anymore. :sarcasm:

16. The junta does not want truth spoken cuz the troops might hear it.
Edited on Tue May-17-05 09:11 AM by havocmom
Chicken Hawks learned much from the errors of the Viet Nam era. They keep news of deaths down, don't show the horror of war on the evening news, keep protesters fenced in, harp on dissent as being unpatriotic.
It stands to reason they learned about what happens when battle hardened troops learn truth and take matters into their own hands so they can stay alive: fragging.

Those in power don't want the troops to fully know the extent of the lies leading to war cuz they are worried about their own sorry asses getting held personally responsible by people with combat skills.

18. The lie has already harmed our troops 1600+ killed. WTF McCain?
He is suggesting that we cover up the lie and continue to support this illegal and immoral war in Iraq and lose yet more lives? The harm to the troops is that they are fighting to protect an evil, lying regime at home and they are still being lied to.

19. Republicans have been using the troops like this since 9/11
using them as shields.

"Well, we can't expose what a phony, a fraud, a liar, and a criminal Bush is. Think what that would do to moral!"

"We can't back out now! We are already there!"

"We can't have them knowing about the abuse at the prisons. What would they think?"

"Don't tell them we are cutting their benifits! It will hurt the war effort!"
