Red Cross validates Quran abuses
In an unprecendented move, the International Committee of the Red Cross threw itself in the middle of the Newsweek controversy by publically acknowledging documented Koran abuse cases.

NPR broke the story this morning.

The International Committee of the Red Cross says it has credible information that U.S. personnel at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, have mistreated the Quran. This comes just days after Newsweek retracted a story making similar allegations.

In the audio track which I heard this morning, they reported that ICRC stressed that they are not validating the specific story cited by Newsweek.

1. Bushies will denigrate the Red Cross as unAmerican
and recommend they be tried for treason.

5. They might try, but fat chance that they'll succeed
Despite the fact that it is an organization started in France, which the French distinctly consider to be French, no one in the US knows or cares. The shit is really starting to hit the fan and the White House is going to have trouble discrediting the Red Cross.

10. Well the French claim it as there own
The French say it's French (I'm an exchange student in France). I just asked a few people right now whether it was French or not and they told me it was. I looked it up though and you're completely right, it's Swiss. I probably should of thought a bit about the flag before posting.

8. Good for them
I don't see how anyone could find it so hard to believe that
this could happen. To think so is to ignore all the news that
has come out about the abuse going on over there. After Abu
Gharib I would find it hard not to believe.

13. The Red Cross should not get involved
This is not in line with the neutral status of the RC. They endanger their position with this kind of revelation.

Having said that, can Newsweek now retract their retraction and will the White House retract their earlier version?

20. Actually I understand your argument
but would have to disagree.

Telling the truth IS a neutral stance. It's just not one we are accustomed to.

22. There really are different truths
Inevitably the RC will move itself in a position where it can no longer do what it needs to do.

There are other organizations like Amnesty International to expose abuse.

14. You should change the thread title
to "confirms Quran abuses" or something...

It currently reads like "Red Cross gives thumbs-up to Quran abuses"! :)

15. Red Cross is
also the Red Crescent. In Isreal they have used ambulances to taxi weapons and terrorists. In Afghanistan they were providing food to the Taliban.

Also-I won't dispute that they might have fed hungry people--since that is what they do, it's the other part of your statement that I am having a hard time believing.
