Awesome post by Catherine Crier (at Huffington Post)
An absolute must read...

snips...

Buchanan: “They have been failures. The battle is over the Supreme Court. (It) has become a judicial dictatorship in this country. It dictates racial policy on quotas, affirmative action. It tells us we must have abortion on demand. It’s now into gay rights. It has become a super legislature. Control of it is more important tin the social culture war in America than control of Congress in the United States. That ultimately is what this is all about. The President has got to get those Supreme Court justices...and if that means breaking these ridiculous obstructionist filibusters, he ought to do it.”

...

The Christian right has portrayed themselves as victims long enough.

...

Just how much do they want? They want it all.

...

Those who assert they are moral without believing in the Scriptures, verbatim, go straight to Hell.

...

If we want a Theocracy in this country, then ignore the assault on our nation’s judges. If you believe in the Republic that our Founding Fathers bequeathed, then prepare to battle for the one remaining branch of the government that has not yet been co-opted -- the federal Judiciary.

Can I say, WOW!!!? Pat Buchanan really laid it all on the line in that one. This needs to get out to people.

I never liked Crier's show on CourtTV, but then I never really liked CourtTV. Maybe I'll have to check it out.

Kudos to Catherine Crier!

2. She did well on this one. I have heard the fundies say that many times.
That is also the reason they are so insistent on these appelate court judges. Most decisions are made at that level because the SCOTUS takes so few cases each year.

They really feel like the courts have ruled so far to the left in this country for years, there is no choice but to replace all the existing judges.

3. Republican-appointees already control 10 of the 13
I've heard it a few places now, sorry no links, but Republic-appointees make up a majority on 10 of the 13 federal courts, with 2 being even and Democratic-appointees being the majority on a grand total of 1.

4. Crier kicks ass
I like her a lot. On CSPAN sometime either late last month or earlier this month they had a special about judges and various stuff going on in the court room and people were able to ask question's (it was mostly an audience of twenty-something's I think or early thirties). One girl asked about Bush's appointee judge's and she was pretty pissed off about it and let it be known.

6. I know that, but the fundies aren't happy with them. They're still
too liberal! I suspect they'd only be really happy id Dobson and Robertson were appointed to the courts! They're depending on Shrub to find soe really holy ones!

5. When was the last time "fundies"
Got something right. The attack on the courts has little to do with "morals", e.g. gays, abortion, religion, evolution and "big guvmint". It has everything to do with corporate power and the ruling elite. If you are poor, you'll be poorer and if you are stupid, you'll be stupider.
