Cornyn just lit the fuse
Edited on Fri May-20-05 02:32 PM by kohodog
He filed for clouture for Frist who is traveling. The clouture vote will be on Tuesday, and then we'll see what happens. Hopefully 6 republicans will break awayand keep a semblance of democracy alive.

Listening to cspan today it seems like the two parties are speaking different languages. They are talking past each other, seemingly oblivious to each other. I've never seen anything quite like it, but it's one hell of a mess we're in.

4. Speculation of a back room compromise over the weekend -
I say NO. This needs to come to fruition, let the cards fall where they may and if the vote does pass, Democratic Senators need to bring all Senate business to a screeching halt.

9. Let the chips fall, yes.
The Republican leadership OWES Evangelicals big time and the bill has come due. Time for them to pay up. Nothing will stop them; least of all the moderate members of the party.

It will be interesting to see if the Democrats at long last realize you cannot work with individuals who have zero interest in governing our nation and decide to finally become an opposition party.

Peace.

www.missionnotaccomplished.us - Be it MNA Day 3 or 8 or 15 or .... the day will come when 10s of millions of Americans and others stop their typical activities for 24 hours and urge 10 times that many to join should another MNA Day be required. On that glorious day what we once called "America" will emerge.

5. Cornyn has been lying about the legal justification of his repeated
assertion that the Senate filibuster rule is unconsitutional. I will come back later today and post a thread on this, which hasn't been visible enough for several weeks. We need to hit it hard. When I post that thread, I'll link to it here.

13. I actually think this is a good thing and could be an important
turning point.

Let's play chicken with the MF***ers.

Let's see if they have enough of those lock step Republican senators who are willing to turn the senate into a cinder.

I wanna see which ones do it.

They know they are pushing the limit. They think the dems will back off and they will get their way without pushing the button.

Make them push the damn button. I wanna see it happen.

They don't have the nerve. They don't.

The question is: Will the dems be fricking noodles or not.

15. Another thing Cornyn said was that there
would be a vote at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, May 23. Before that, he said that Frist would take to the Floor from 4:00 to 4:45, and Harry Reid will have the floor from 4:45 to 5:30. Then at 5:30, Frist will call for the Sargent-at-Arms to round up all of the Senators to come to the floor for a vote. Cornyn didn't say what that vote would be for. Could it be the "test vote" that I heard about earlier? Then they could have Cheney ready and on stand-by for Tuesday.

17. Truly when you think about it
What do we have to lose by standing our ground?
We lose much more by giving in.
