Economy Is Likely to Weather Surge in Oil Prices Well, Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan Says

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The economy, which had hit a temporary soft patch from surging energy prices, probably will weather the situation well, Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan suggested Friday.

Considering he's been catastrophically wrong about everything else, I'd say this is a sure sign to start hording precious metals!

1. The surge in oil prices is ment to strangle the population...
When people are over a barrel they are more likely to go along, then when they percieve they are not.

2. I thought people were more likely to revolt or at least
be less docile, when over a barrell.

What's the saying: "Revolutions are fought on empty stomachs" or something like that.

10. Maybe the new saying should be:
"Revolutions are fought on empty SUV gas tanks". When the brainless sheep can't have their toys, they will turn on Bush.

3. Economists are calling it a “soft patch,” . . .
<snip>

"Economists are calling it a “soft patch,” a temporary slowdown in economic growth. This reflects a regression from earlier euphemisms of a “Goldilocks” economy. I’m sure before long the “soft patch” will turn into a “soft landing.” However, I’ve yet to see a “soft landing” in my 30 years in the investment business. Soft landings are as rare as the dodo bird. It is surprising to see this term resurface every time we are about to head into a recession. Perhaps economists think it has a more palatable sound than recession and depression, which are more frightening terms to investors."

4. Oh Christ, what did Bill Clinton do now?????
He must have left an economic bomb with a time delayed fuse to mess up the Bush economic boom that tax cuts for the wealthy always bring us!

6. Hope you've started your "Survival garden"
By the time enough of the country wakes up to the effect of conservative economic policy, we'll be trying to figure out how many generations it will take to get out of debt.
Can't wait to charge some Beltway insider $10,000 to fix their TV! You don't like the price? Fix it yourself!

8. They're just gonna buy a new one....rather than fix the old one
Remember, they're the ones helped by all the tax breaks, and the politicians get $$ benefits forever.
