my son received scholarship from the marines
we just heard. Bizarre. Sure..he just got top award for Physics in the state ... is top academic.. but also is green party and active in antiwar movement.

We are puzzled. Only marine scholarship given out.
Am a bit creeped out by it.

11. Good. Don't even respond. (nt)
Peace.

www.missionnotaccomplished.us - Be it MNA Day 3 or 8 or 15 or .... the day will come when 10s of millions of Americans and others stop their typical activities for 24 hours and urge 10 times that many to join should another MNA Day be required. On that glorious day what we once called "America" will emerge.

2. Read the fine print
You have to be alive to use it.

5. This scholarship has the potential to be fatal.
I wouldn't do it.

7. In my dim memory, I think I got a $500 DOD scholarship in 1972...
My tuition was paid for by another scholarship and the DOD grant helped pay for books and the dorm.

No strings, the college did a lot of DOD work.

But, in today's world, I'd talk to the financial aid people before I'd take the money.

8. Don't use it
Once in college, they may consider him part of the Corps and send him to Iraq. Use another scholarship or have him work for tuition. At least he'd be alive.

I love the military especially the Corps but their low levels of recruits might be causing this.

9. Marines and higher education ....
...... be careful. Something about this doesn't pass the smell test.

10. DON'T... NO....
Why on earth would anybody consider taking anything from the military under present conditions? God knows what you would have to sign to get the bucks. You don't want them to know your son is even alive!

The Corps always needs second lieutenants, and the "boot butter bars" have a short combat life expectancy.

If you/he really needs the money, give him a handgun and a ski mask and have him hold up liquor stores... it's safer!

12. The marine crotch is sooo benevolent.
When I was in, a friend of mine extended his enlistment for 18 months so he could go to flight school as promised by the reenlistment guys.

"Whoops! Sorry. No flight school for you. You fell asleep on guard duty once and got a demotion."

Did they rescind the extension? Nope.

But, he did get a nice trip to Vietnam in 1966.
