Jedi Lightsabers are BLUE; Sith Lightsabers are RED
Just felt the need to point that out.

With all the parallels being noted between the Sith and the Bushies; the fall of The Republic and the transformation into The Empire, & etc, it just seemed like worth mentioning another coincidence with current events: that the basic energy of The Force as projected by the lightsaber is BLUE for Good and RED for Evil/The Dark Side.

"For over a thousand generations, the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. Before the dark times, before the Empire." - Obi-Wan Kenobi

8. No, you're generalizing...
Jedi lightsabers are actually green, blue, and purple. If you happen to read the books they also come in other assorted hues. I have also made that distinction in the past, but with Mace Windu, Yoda and other totting different color lightsabers it is inaccurate to draw that anology without including the third parties in this country! Trust me, I'm a HUGE Star Wars fan and I know my stuff...

11. I was referring to the first movie (Episode IV)
While researching for the post (yes, I am a hopeless academic pedantic - being forced to work in the private sector of commerce has only hardened my scholarly inner core) I read a write up about lightsabers and saw the mention of the other colors you noted.

I too thought of the "Green" party when I read that some Jedi had green lightsabers.

Here's the article I found - it goes into quite a bit of detail on the colors, design, function and other technical details of the lightsaber.

Taking a look at the Star Wars Lightsaber
http://www.juiceenewsdaily.com/0505/entertainment/light_saber.html

excerpt:

"In the original film trilogy, lightsabers were limited to blue and green for the Jedi, while red-bladed lightsabers were associated with evil Jedi Knights or Sith. The various expanded universe (EU) sources and the prequel films opened up the spectrum of blade colors to include (among others) purple, pink, orange, and yellow. Obi-Wan Kenobi primarily wielded a blue-bladed lightsaber, while Mace Windu famously uses a purple-bladed lightsaber. The color of a lightsaber's blade is dependent upon the crystals used to focus it. Blue-bladed lightsabers are loosely associated with Jedi Guardians; green-bladed lightsabers are loosely associated with Jedi Consulars; yellow-bladed lightsabers are loosely associated with Jedi Sentinels; lavender-bladed lightsabers are loosely associated with Jedi Healers; and red-bladed lightsabers are more closely associated with the Sith..."

12. When did the colors change? Red used to be Democrat, blue Repub
If Lucas based the story on the Vietnam war which happened under Democrats, and they were red then, it would still hold today thanks to the color change.

20. HUH?
Blue has always been the Liberal Party color in the Americas, and Red the conservative Party color.

14. Not just light sabers,
Edited on Wed May-25-05 12:34 PM by kiki
but also (and probably more consistently; see above posts) the "shots" that come out of the blasters are red for the Imperial troops and blue for the Rebels.

Red and light blue are the most commonly used colour alternatives to black and white, and can similarly be used to denote good guys and bad guys. However, stormtrooper uniforms are mainly white. But Darth Vader's all in black. Luke starts off in white, and ends up in black. Ah, who cares.

I like the way all the Imperial underlings on the Death Star are English.

15. More star wars silliness.....
Edited on Wed May-25-05 01:00 PM by rinsd
...but I'll bite because I'm a big time fan boy.

First, light sabers come in all flavors(red, green, blue, purple). Just look at the big battle on Geonosis especially the Jedi charge against the droids. Sith do seem to use the red saber exclusively.

2nd, red and blue as political labels were not widely used prior to 2000. In fact in 96 the GOP was blue while the Dems were coded in red.

3rd, Anakin commits some of his greatest crimes while wielding a blue light saber.

Seriously, we need to give this shit a rest. Do you know who has propigated and fostered this RIDICULOUS theory to the world?

The mainstream media. Yes, you are helping spread a POLARIZING generalization that was created by CNN, NBC, FOX, etc...
