Recall---------Wingnut Talking Point
Wingnut: "The RECALL is a PROGRESSIVE idea."

Yeah, but: You do a RECALL *if* the office-holder (ELECTED) committed some CRIME or MALFEASEANCE. If you ELECTED him and he didn't commit a CRIME-------------guess what, you're STUCK with him, even if you don't like his PERSONALITY.

Disgustingly enough, William SAFIRE agreed with this position on MtP.

1. it defeats the purpose of regular elections in a constitutional republic
this sort of thing is what happens with governments with a parlimentary form of government, where leaders of government are selected by parlimentary elections of its members, but that's not what we have.

of course, ole' william misfire forgot that.

hell, he would prefer a monarchy

2. Other right wing talking points
Arnold will terminate our problems.

Arnold is going to pump up California.

Arnold will make a total recall.

All very convincing.

3. It really pisses the conservatives off
when I tell them how much a liberal like me likes Ahnold (a baldface one) because he's so liberal.

4. Didn't Saf-liar say the recall was a mistake?
Maybe I watched a different MTP than you, but I thought I heard old Billy clearly say he thought the recall was a mistake. Novacula was the one orgasming over the recall...

5. I don't know the history of California politics
But I think it WAS the Progressive party that pushed this recall thing. I don't know the reasons for it, but I'm pretty sure it was the Progressives that done it.

As far as Arnold, I don't have anything against him. But I just can't see him as a Governor. I can't possibly take him seriously. Even worse than Jessie Ventura, who actually was taken seriously for awhile. But Arnold? The Terminator? Comon. :eyes:

7. Recall Is FINE If the Dude Did Something WRONG
If not, you elected him, you're STUCK with him. And that's what SAFIRE the NIXON zombie agreed with.

6. The Recall LAW is progressive
or was, back in the days when crooked politicians were common. The California law was enacted in the progressive spirit of rooting out political corruption. The current invocation of the law has nothing to do with that spirit, and is little more than a statutory coup.

8. It's all very simple
Money comes in. Favors go out. The people lose.

At least that's what Arnie tells a group of kindergartners in his advertisements that seem to be running every 15 minutes.

I think Davis will survive this recall. My absentee ballot is already prepared.

And I think McClintock, principled yahoo that he is, will stick to his guns and stay in the race to the end.
