The situation on the ground in Iraq.
This is what I think is happening:

The war criminals are safely behind the walls of the Green Zone
afraid to come out, but sending out young men and women to carry out orders.

Their stooges, fearing for their lives, continue to do their masters' bidding mainly for their own survival.

The Iraqi patriots, constantly swelling in number each day as the situation of ordinary Iraqis gets ever more desperate, are the ones who have seized the initiative because, as the old song goes, Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose.

Expect nothing but a collapse. Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld's excellent colonial adventure is ending in the only way that all these things end.Add Blair to the mix and stir.

1. Add the Iraq war to to the long list of failures of George W Bush.
Make that spectacular failures. We're going to get run from Iraq in the most embarrassing way. I can see it coming. A panicky bug-out leaving behind anything and everything. Then the neocons will try to sell it as a successful orderly withdrawal. Meantime the Arab world will be emboldened to use the same tactics they used in Iraq around the world.

3. A defeat for U.S. and British Imperialism, when it comes, may be the
only thing that will return our rulers to sanity.Even the great debacle of Vietnam does not appear to have had any effect at all, mainly because the ruling classes are completely insulated from the pain they inflict on others by remote control.

5. Sadly, the heat has gone off Blair a bit.
For a while it looked like we were getting somewhere, but at the moment the two top political stories in the UK are about the general election ending today and Prescott (allegedly) flipping the V sign at someone in the Commons.

As London swelters, it seems the entire UK media has taken the month off.

6. I was thinking about the green zone last night.
It's like the big tomato target in Iraq.
