Republicans have spent the past 50 year calling us commies. Stalin killed more people than Hitler, but none of us feeble-minded, humane liberals ever raised a loud objection to their slurs. Even though we controlled the congress and White House during much of that period.
Well, folks, it's time we started getting our hands dirty. Yeah, I've heard the bullshit about some guy (Goodman?) who says that the second you call someone a Nazi means that you've lost the argument. Sorry, but I'm not buying it.
My grandmother told me, firsthand, about Nazis. She was around in the early 1930s when no one took them seriously. And she was around on Krystalnacht, after which they gained complete control. And she was around when Jews and many others were being shipped east on trains to "resettlement centers."
Okay, you know how this story ends. So just go on believing that "It can't happen here." But don't discount anyone who compares BushCo tactics to those of the Nazis.
Senator Durbin, I find your original statements accurate and your apology an insult. And I'm disgusted with every American that didn't stand behind Durbin.
History never repeats itself in exactly the same way. But repeat itself it does, and right now, our country is in the greatest danger imaginable from the fascists who are holding the levers of power.
