Moon Issues Final Challenge to NY & America;
Moon Issues Final Challenge to NY & America; Interfaith Leaders Join 85 Year-old Evangelist in Call to America as Global Peacemaker, Dramatic Peace Bridge Proposal

6/23/2005 3:57:00 PM

To: Assignment Desk, Daybook Editor

Contact: Rev. Darryl Gray, 212-997-0050 ext. 216 or 514-758-7026 (cell)

News Advisory:

WHAT: Interreligious Rally for Peace and the Family; News Conference

WHEN: Saturday, June 25

News Conference: 3 p.m.

Rally: 3:30 p.m.

WHERE: Jacob Javitz Convention Center, 34th Street & 11th Avenue, New York, N.Y.

WHO: Rev. and Mrs. Sun Myung Moon; 37 national and local interfaith leaders

BACKGROUND:

More than 100,000 people -- almost all Christians -- are expected to gather in Flushing Meadows this weekend to hear Rev. Billy Graham preach a familiar message about coming to Jesus, a message he's been giving for more than 50 years.

Meanwhile, across town, the Reverend Sun Myung Moon will issue a new challenge to America, calling for Christians, Muslims and Jews to overcome their differences, promote inter-religious dialogue, encourage interfaith marriage, and work as 'Ambassadors for Peace' in the Middle East and the world. Moon says that if the U.S. does not quickly respond, God will choose another nation for His Will. "Now is God's Time," says Moon, 85. "He cannot be satisfied with only spiritual progress. Heaven cannot tolerate religious and ethnic divisions any longer."

More than 4,000 people are expected to gather at the Jacob Javits center to hear the 85-year-old, still dynamic spiritual leader launch a dramatic appeal to the world community to undertake the most ambitious civil engineering project in history -- a 51-mile bridge to connect the United States and Russia, physically and symbolically uniting East and West, to be built across the Bering Strait at a cost of over $200 billion.

"Rev. Moon is hitting on all the spiritual hot buttons of contemporary society, including peace in the Middle East, fighting AIDS, marriage and family, interfaith relations, homosexuality, and what is more, he's never pulled his punches." -- Reverend Darryl Gray, United Church, Montreal, Canada

"Rev. Moon has been building bridges all his life. African-Americans know of his efforts to bring the races and religions of the world together, and we have worked with him here and in the Middle East as Ambassadors of Peace. It comes natural that he would now launch this visionary appeal to physically unite the world in a project that demands peaceful cooperation." -- Archbishop George Stallings, African American Catholic Church (Washington, D.C.)

"Rev. Moon's efforts bringing thousands of pilgrims of every faith to Israel in just one year have done more to advance peace than ten years of talking and discussing roadmaps." -- Dr. Eleazar Glaubach, former city councilor, City of Jerusalem, Israel

"Through the efforts of Dr. Sun Myung Moon, I have come to love Jews and Christians as my brothers and sisters. We are now pursuing the realization of the founding spirit of America that respects all races, faiths and ethnicities." -- Imam Haitham Bundakji, Islamic Center of Orange County, Calif.

3. Of course Moon is aware there are no highways anywhere near there, right?
a 51-mile bridge to connect the United States and Russia, physically and symbolically uniting East and West, to be built across the Bering Strait at a cost of over $200 billion.

Since the erudite Rev. Moon controls at least one U.S. university (the Univ. of Bridgeport in Conn.), I would expect him to be aware that there are no through roads of any kind within hundreds of miles of the Bering Strait on either side -- possibly thousands on the Russian (that's Siberia) side.

Is Moon prepared to pour more hundreds of billions into highways to connect the bridge with Fairbanks on the Alaska side, and, I don't know, Vladivostok on the Russian? And if so, would he please sell UB back to the community to raise some of it?

What a moran.

8. We'd be better off building a floating subway tunnel from LA to Tokyo.
Seriously. At least that would get used, and it's about as likely as the Bering bridge.

6. Pays 'em off. Just ask Poopy Bu$h.
Moon paid old man Bu$h $100,000, IIRC, for a single speech not long after Bush left the White House.

Both Moon and Billy Graham make me very proud to be an atheist.

7. Moon is feeling a sense of urgency as he feels the cold hand
of the Grim Reaper and it starts to dawn on him that no matter how many crowns he manages to trick Congressmen into setting on his head, he's really an ordinary old man who is going to die soon.

It will be very interesting to see what happens to the Moonies with the figurehead gone.

12. this cultist thinks that he has surpassed Jesus Christ
says Christ was a failure - died before marriage and children - and he (Moon) is the risen heir to God's throne.

:puke:

http://www.americaheldhostile.com/ed010702.shtml

Sun Myung Moon claims to be free of sin. He claims to have more wisdom than Jesus, and he has often said that he is greater than Jesus. Sun Myung Moon teaches that:

"Abraham was the father of faith, Moses was a man of faith, Jesus was the son of man, trying to carry out his mission at the cost of his life. But they are, in a way, failures." (Sun Myung Moon, "Victory or Defeat," from Master Speaks, March 31, 1973, p.1.) He also teaches: "This means that the failures of Adam and of Jesus Christ have been restored by the appearance of True Parents." (Rev. Moon, Today's World, January, 1995, p.8)

14. Moon has a lotta connections you don't know about.
Edited on Fri Jun-24-05 01:18 AM by Zan_of_Texas
1. In 1995, Rev. Jerry Falwell hailed 2 VA businessmen as financial saviors of debt-ridden Liberty University, Falwell's fundamentalist Christian school. But, Falwell's secret benefactor was Rev. Sun Myung Moon. One of Moon's front groups funneled $3.5 million to the businessmen's Christian Heritage Foundation. (p. 267, Secrets & Privilege: Rise of the Bush Dynasty from Watergate to Iraq, by Robert Parry)

2. Moon set up a daily newspaper in the nation's capital around 1982 -- the Washington Times. It functions as part of the right-wing echo chamber.

3. In 1997, Moon's Washington Times Foundation made a $1 million plus donation to George H W Bush's presidential library in Texas. (p. 275, Secrets & Privilege: Rise of the Bush Dynasty from Watergate to Iraq, by Robert Parry)

4. Richard Viguerie -- a pioneer of direct mail who teamed ideology with fundraising, and now runs the Virginia-based American Target Advertising, Inc. -- has sent out over 2 billion letters over the past 40 years, according to the publisher of his latest book. "...One of his first clients -- in 1965 -- was the Korean Cultural Freedom Foundation (KCFF) -- a front for the Unification Church.

Financial problems forced Viguerie to sell Conservative Digest in 1985. Viguerie's friendship with Moon's operation paid off a year later when the Church "came to his aid financially," Sara Diamond writes. Viguerie landed the lucrative distribution account of the Unification Church-sponsored weekly news magazine called Insight. Then, in 1987, U.S. Property Development Corporation, a Moon-controlled entity bought Viguerie's office building for $10.06 million. A book by Carlton Sherwood helped silence Moon's critics and enabled the South Korean theocrat to continue funneling hundreds of millions of dollars into the U.S. political process. October 15, 2004

Mysterious Republican Money
House Speaker Dennis Hastert implied, without evidence, that liberal funder George Soros funnels drug money into the U.S. political process. But Republican administrations have looked the other way when facing evidence that conservative benefactor Sun Myung Moon has ties to overseas drug lords and has engaged in a long-running conspiracy to launder money. 21. Moonie leader 'crowned' in Senate
http://www.guardian.co.uk/religion/Story/0,2763,1245930,00.html

The US Senate was used for a bizarre ritual in which the Rev Sun Myung Moon, the head of the Unification church, was "crowned" and declared himself the messiah in the presence of more than a dozen Republican and Democratic members of Congress, it was reported yesterday.

"Emperors, kings and presidents ... have declared to all heaven and Earth that Reverend Sun Myung Moon is none other than humanity's saviour, messiah, returning Lord and true parent," the 85-year-old Korean "Moonie" cult leader told several hundred guests at the meeting in one of the Senate's office buildings on March 23, according to the Washington Post.

He also claimed endorsement from Marx, Lenin, Stalin and Hitler, who had all been reformed and reborn through his church's teachings - an idiosyncratic version of Christianity which rejects the use of the cross as a symbol and denounces homosexuals as "dirty dung-eating dogs".

An account of the ceremony was first published by a Washington investigative journalist, John Gorenfeld.

According to a transcript of the event, Mr Moon declared: "I am God's ambassador, sent to Earth with his full authority. I am sent to accomplish his command to save the world's six billion people, restoring them to Heaven with the original goodness in which they were created."

28. Warner Helped the Rev. Moon
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A19-2004Jul20.html

Wednesday, July 21, 2004; Page A02

Sen. John W. Warner's office acknowledged yesterday that the Virginia Republican arranged for religious activists to use a Senate office building last March for a ceremony in which the Rev. Sun Myung Moon declared himself the Messiah and said his teachings have helped Hitler and Stalin be "reborn as new persons."

The senator did not attend the coronation-like ceremony or realize it would involve Moon, a controversial figure who spent 18 months in prison in the 1980s for tax fraud, said Warner spokesman John Ullyot. "Our office felt misled" after news accounts described a long ceremony in which Moon and his wife were crowned as leaders of international peace, he said.

Many private groups use Senate office buildings for receptions and meetings, but they must obtain a senator's approval. The Senate Rules and Administration Committee has declined to reveal who approved the use of the Dirksen Senate Office Building for the March 23 ceremony, and a key organizer said last month the question was "shrouded in mystery." Warner's office acknowledged its role yesterday when asked for details by The Washington Post.

When news accounts last month described the ceremony, several of the approximately dozen lawmakers who attended said they were duped into going and had no idea the Moons would be the chief honorees. Some said they simply went to see a constituent receive an award and were unaware of Moon's long speech in which he said, "Emperors, kings and presidents . . . have declared to all Heaven and Earth that Reverend Sun Myung Moon is none other than humanity's Savior, Messiah, Returning Lord and True Parent."
