Bush's Tuesday night address to have him surrounded by troops.
That is what they just said on CNN.

Another photo-op broadcast on all the networks during Prime Time. Will there be a banner saying Mission Not Accomplished? I doubt it.

Bush to address Americans from Fort Bragg

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush will deliver a major address to U.S. troops and the nation about Iraq on Tuesday night from the U.S. military base at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, the White House said.

-snip-
McClellan said the speech would be delivered at 8 p.m., and that the White House has asked U.S. television networks to air the address live.

Bush is expected to use the prime time speech to outline his strategy in Iraq amid increasing public doubts about the war.

1. I hope this backfires big-time; I hope the press does its job for once...
and places this speech in the context of falling poll numbers for both W and the war, and the desperation the speech comes out of. And pointing out the use of our troops as political props, I suppose, would be far too much to ask.

5. I think it will. Getting the troops to hoot an hollar will just make it
look staged. Then he will seem even more out of touch.

6. I'm so sick of him using our troops as props while behind the scenes
they undercut them in a million ways. It is just disgusting.

Will he get to wear a dress up costume to look like a "real" soldier? Just the jacket, the entire flight suit?

37. nope, that's Dead Zone....
wasn't Walken's kid, it was the son of a rich guy he was tutoring. since his accident with a milk truck, where he was in a coma for several years, he woke up but in need of physical rehabilitation. While in the hospital, he discovered his ability to see the future by touching someone.
when he saw the kid drown during a hockey game BUT convinces the kid not to go, therefore he knows he can influence the future.
Then he shakes Greg Stillson's hand during a rally (coincidentally his former girlfriend and her husband are campaigning for Stillson), he sees the future of the end of all humanity because of this one politician.

It's based on a Stephen King novel, and it does make several plot changes. for example, in the book, its not a hockey game but a high school graduation at a fancy restaurant that burns down, killing everyone inside.

Prophecy (which I have not seen so I'm sketchy on) is about a being (Walken) who might be demon or angel who is trying to prevent/start armageddon and the endtimes.

as I recall there was nothing remotely objectionable about it. the poster was merely describing a scene from "Dead Zone" and confused about the title..

King was spot-on when he wrote this one; he also came out VERY strongly against Bush in the last "election".

Who gets to give the rebuttal from the Democratic side?
I really don't care who it is as long as they bring a pair with them and slap bush in the face with them. It would be nice to point out how this is no more than a stunt to prop up his numbers and put lipstick on a pig.

8. Can he FORCE networks to carry this?
What about the "magic of the marketplace"? What's on Tuesday night at 8PM? Might the networks find that programming more interesting to the public (and therefore more profitable for them) than yet more mind-numbing drivel from this guy? Considering that the cable "news" networks cover his every fart during the day, his commandeering of network primetime is starting to feel like "State-sponsored media".

9. Apx. one-third of all enlisted troops are republicans.
And as enlisteds are apx 85% of the entire US military, it's no problem finding republican troops to stand with bush for bush's political photo-ops.

Unfortunately, rightwing soldiers are just as dumb, ignorant and plain stupid as rightwing civilians.

10. he just makes my fucking skin crawl
This deplorable little coward, who would have wet his pants if he'd gotten within a thousand miles of Vietnam, tries to leech off the courage and sacrifice of our troops in some sick attempt at transference.

I'm SICK of this. It's a shame we can't form a human chain around Ft. Bragg to keep this bastard from ever, ever, ever again exploiting their bravery and trying to make it his own. What a goddamn phony.

Have the injured soldiers that have returned from hell (and are getting benefits cut, by the way) as a backdrop.

YES!!!!! I think this will be GREAT!!!! It'll just remind people of his little "mission accomplished" (LOL) talk surrounded by members of the US Navy. And THAT is not something he wants to be reminding people of!

Also, bush is such a horrific public speaker (hell, he's a horrific speaker, period) he sounds like he hasn't even mastered his native language. Which means we are gauranteed several fuck-ups in his speech. Maybe even some great ones like how "we never stop thinking about how to harm our people."

Really, he should give these speeches more often. I say have him in front of the cameras every fucking day.

"Freedom is on the march. It's hard werk. It doesn't happen overnight. We are at war because of 9/11. 9/11 changed everything. This war came to us because of 9/11. 9/11 is the reason for everything. Did I mention 9/11? We are making good progress."

Or as I like to call it make up shit, call it roses, and blame everything on 9/11.

I still haven't gotten over his little sashay across the carrier's flight deck in that frigging Village People getup. Damfool claims to have been a pilot - jerk, the real pilots knew enough to unfasten the straps of their flight harnesses, not prance about with the straps going up their butt so that they walked like they had a broomstick where no broomstick should ever go.
