Christians plan Exodus to So. Carolina - Secession "is a valid option"
The Southern Nationalist
Southern, Christian, Paleo-Conservative, Strict Constitutionalist

Christian Exodus Statement of Intent:

ChristianExodus.org is an association of Christians who no longer wish to live under the unjust usurpation of powers by the federal government, and therefore resolves to formally disassociate itself from this tyrannical authority, and return to the model of governance of a constitutional republic. We seek a republican government constrained by constitutionally delegated powers. If this cannot be achieved within the United States, then we believe a peaceful withdrawal from the union to be the last available remedy.

Cont'd... and you've just got to see this -
http://www.southernnationalist.org/christian_exodus_intent.htm
=========================================

WELCOME TO THE CHRISTIAN EXODUS

ChristianExodus.org is moving thousands of Christians to South Carolina to reestablish constitutionally limited government founded upon Christian principles. This includes the return to South Carolina of all "powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States." 1 It is evident that the U.S. Constitution has been abandoned under our current federal system, and the efforts of Christian activism to restore our Godly republic have proven futile over the past three decades. The time has come for Christian Constitutionalists to protect our American principles in a State like South Carolina by interposing the State's sovereign authority retained under the 10th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

http://www.christianexodus.org/
===========================================

Their aim: to tip the political scales, which they see as already weighted heavily to the right, further in that direction.

Secession "is a valid option," said Janoski, a "state coordinator" for the organization -- but he hopes it doesn't come to that.

Let all the bigots and religiously insane all move to one place and leave the rest of us alone! Should be an entertaining show to watch how rapidly they screw everything up.

Any bets on when the incompetent morans beg for help from the secular government they're so anxious to be separated from?

8. Just a few of the bullet points:
Religious freedom:

At no time in American jurisprudence has religious persecution been acceptable. Nor does ChristianExodus.org believe any tenets of the Christian faith promote persecution of other faiths. Our organization stands decidedly in favor of religious freedom and liberty for all human beings so long as their religious behaviors do not violate the God-given rights of others. Again, ChristianExodus.org will not support any efforts on the part of government to violate the unalienable right to freedom of religious belief. People of all faiths must have the same rights and freedoms guaranteed to them under law.

Religious participation in ChristianExodus.org:

ChristianExodus.org is an organization for committed Christians. Please see our Statement of Faith for further clarification. While ChristianExodus.org does not desire to exclude anyone from moving to or living in South Carolina, we do expect that members of our organization agree with our Statement of Faith.

Racial and nationality discrimination:

ChristianExodus.org demands that all races be treated equally as children of God. All people originate from the same Creator and are therefore equal in His sight, and must be treated equally before the law. ChristianExodus.org will not tolerate any racial hatred or discrimination by its members. Additionally, once in South Carolina, ChristianExodus.org members will work to ensure equal access to and treatment before the law for all God's people irrespective of color or national origin.

Abortion:

ChristianExodus.org believes human life begins at conception and from that moment the law must protect each individual's right to life. Therefore, the United States' federal government neglects its responsibility to protect the unalienable right to life, and denies the right of sovereign states of the union to protect life.

Homosexuality:

ChristianExodus.org recognizes that homosexuality is an unhealthy, unsafe, detrimental behavior that affects all citizens in a community, not just the participants. Additionally, sexual conduct outside the bonds of marriage is not a God-given right. Therefore, homosexual activity is a behavior that a state may regulate and legislate against.

Californians should get rid of that Nazi in their own statehouse before they decide to create "New California". As for me, I live in a state with a DEM governor and two DEM U.S. Senators, including Robert Byrd.

Call me when someone wants to form a "New West Virginia"! (Although "New Vermont" sounds nice, too!)

It's devisive and won't help Dems win ANY red state.

Besides, it's stupid and doesn't consider that there are many good things in red states and many bad things in blue states.

Why don't the fundies just move to some rich, Bush-supporting guy's island and leave the United States altogether? That way they might be "united" states again, instead of having these freaks divide it.

I can't imagine fundies receiving a warm welcome here. Besides we have the College of Charleston, and colleges and universities are like kryptonite to fundies (that's where the evil liberals spend their time).

Is there any special reason they are picking SC, there are more conservative states to choose from. I'm looking at you Utah!

104. "Heck, why not Florida?"
You want to give them 25 uncontested electoral votes forever? They can do a lot less damage in a small state.

But, of course, this whole discussion is divisive and pointless. These crackpots are just that--crackpots. They are not going to move anywhere or secede from anything. And this story is nothing more than an excuse for the usual twits to engage in state and region bashing, something that we spend far too much time doing around here as it is.

put all these fascists in one place to compress their votes. SC has what, 2 senators and how many reps? Then the Entire remainder of the US would be Dems and moderate Reps.

34. They want South Carolina, fine. Pay up.
If we let them buy the whole state it would put a nice dent in the federal budget deficit, what with that fine stretch of ocean frontage.

They will succeed in making a small areas Exodus fiefdoms because that isn't hard -- the polygamist Mormon groups have managed to do that. If they succeed in controlling the politics statewide, it will be miserable for anyone who doesn't ascribe to their narrow band of Christian theology.

I feel sorry for South Carolinians who aren't interested in living with this group of crusaders.

49. No, no! Texas, please, go to Texas! Texas should secede! Oh, please,
please, please! It's got more room! It has lots of the nasty corrupt conservative christian politicians that you adore! They'll redistrict the state however you want! They'll even throw out the Constitution and make the Old Testament the law of the land!

Please, take Texas!

(Apologies to liberal Texans - but we'll be glad to make room for you if Texas secedes)

Now there's an idea....

Let's see if we can make them RENT their little Utopia. At lease we could make some money off them - as it is now they'll probably get tax-exempt status for everything they do!

67. From Bill Maher's book, 'New Rules'
-New Rule-

“ Stop saying that ‘Blue state people are out of touch with the values and morals of the Red states. I’m not out of touch with them, I just don’t share them, in fact, and I know this is about a hundred and forty years late, but to the Southern states, I would say, upon further consideration, you can go. I know that’s what you always wanted , and, we’ve reconsidered, so, go ahead; and take Texas with you. You know what they say. If at first you don’t secede, try, try again.”

Edited on Sun Jul-17-05 03:24 PM by impeachdubya
is now their Theocratic fuckin' disneyland.

1/3 of Kansas residents believe the Bible's account of Genesis is "the best" scientific explanation for the origin of life.

Undoubtedly, a reliably moderate (meaning that, until a decade ago, she was considered a solid conservative) swing vote on the SCOTUS will very soon be replaced by a rabid christian fundamentalist eager to throw people in jail for having gay sex, swearing in public, or using the birth control pill.

Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell have the ear of the White House and are essentially writing the playbook on everything from foreign policy to whether or not the FDA should approve things like "morning after" contraception (in a word... "No")

They don't need to move to some kind of wacked-out fundy paradise in South Carolina. With the help of a few stolen elections and a brain-dead, media-addled electorate, the United States has become one big South Carolina style fundy paradise.

But fuck, if SC can secede, by my logic, so can California. I'm in.

(edit: and that's not to say everyone in SC is a fundy, just these people)

73. Just for the sake of uniformity...
... could we perhaps petition them, before too many have settled in South Carolina, to consider Florida?

1) They've already got Jeb and the Legislature doing their work.
2) They'll be that much closer to the Terry Schiavo Shrine.
3) It'll keep the remaining continental states more contiguous.
4) The shape of their new country will be representative of them in the way Italy's shape was of Musolini (a fascist boot).
5) Given the lack of effort on global warming, their Apocalypse/Rapture/whatever will come that much sooner.

81. Here's a thought
They can have South Carolina, 100 miles west of I-95. They would have to pay access charges to use any highways out of the state. Internet nodes are turned off. All radio /tv frequencies are jammed coming out of the territory. Anyone who wants to leave can, but they can't go back. Anyone who wants in gets in, but can't come back out.

What a fantastic idea for US.. Let all the fundies gather together in one place, and create blue states in their departures :)

A concentration of wackos in one place could cause some concern for "normal" people who happen to live there, but perhaps they could just go where the "newcomers" came from :)

88. So, Will Mr. Janowski Be Changing His Name?
Perhaps, to John Calhoun?

Or will that be mandatory for all of them, with numbers as suffixes?

"Hello, I'm John Calhoun 305!"

"I see. You must be from South Carolina."

"Is my room ready?"

"Yessir. Room 530."

"Fine. And could you tell Room Service to deliver 5 orders of Freedom Fries, 3 God Burgers, and 10 cold soft drinks to John Calhoun 305, in room 530, please?"

"No, sir. I think you'd better call and tell them that, yourself."

Alaska might be best as it's totally seperated from the rest of the country. Either that or build a wall across the Florida state line with all of those idiots on the other side.

101. Simple pleasures for simple minds, I guess.
This same story is posted at least once a week here, and always garners the same responses from pretty much the same people, who get so much pleasure from trotting out their well-practiced drive-by posts that one would never imagine that they had done the very same thing the week before and the week before that and...

Can one of the usual participants please explain how the kind of divisive bullshit posted in this thread and all the other copycats of it will serve to help us pick up one or two more states or, for that matter, hold on to the "blue" states that are becoming progressively "redder," like Michigan and Minnesota? How about getting Florida back? That would give us a lock on the White House, but frankly I don't think the standard attacks on Floridians will do that.

We are still interested in winning elections, aren't we?

Although can they take Texas instead? South Carolina is too locationally inconvenient. Sorry, I know Austin and San Antonio are nice places, and GOD KNOWS I love Molly Ivins but I think it's a relatively small price to pay and I'd be happy to help relocate all the liberal Texans. Imagine a life without all the freaks trying to ruin this country!

This thread has descended into overly broad generalizations about one region of the U.S. and for specific states. We have DU members in those states and it's not fair to lump them all in together.
