What is the drop, which makes one think about leaving the US?
It's been nine months since i last visited America , back then some of those i crossed paths with would joke about leaving the US .It seems though that the joke is becomming more and more of a serious question asked ,given prudence by it's humor .I would be very grateful if you could elaborate on that consideration if it has ever come to stroll trough the will and wit of your mind .

I might add it's not merely that which killed the cat ,But also a sorrow things are really progressivly moving in the wrong direction for the individual citizen , instead of slowly ,as i used to presume .Also i believe it would imply that there is a somewhat stronger sense now than ever , that the damage done , is beyond repair ,...for now .

i apology on forehand if the question is in anyway the result of a misperception

2. It runs through my mind quite often
I wonder where should i go? How will i make a living? etc. I also, however, wonder if i should stay here and try to fight to make things better here. It's a gigantic decision to leave ones homeland to find a better situation.

4. Mr. kt and I are fighting until 2008.

That will be the deciding factor. If this country elects another *-like serial killer and liar, we are making plans to take off- temnporarily. Nothing is set in stone. We may feel like staying and fighting, we may be too tired by then. My family is securely behind us, but we are too young and will be raising a family by then to subject them to more of this neocon bullshit.

We're waiting to assess the situation before making any future plans... but we are putting a few dollars aside just in case. Both of us have jobs that wil easily adapt overseas or Canada or our company reaches across the border.

Again, nothing is set. But at the same time, we rule nothing out.

Edited to add:

We often ask ourselves how much of our reasoning is reasonable and how much of it is over anger. We both realsize that right now, as angry as we are, we may be thinking unreasonably, but more reactionary.

P.S.S. Edited for spelling. One too many glasses of wine will do amazing things to your spelling.:toast:

5. joke? I've been in abject fear. It's been deadly serious since 9/11.
My significant other, on the other hand, has vetoed moving, and nowadays it looks like it's too late for the paperwork to go through before disaster strikes.

6. madness to leave isn't it
seem to remember quite a few german nationals rounded up and placed in concentration camp as spies who did no more wrong than to have the misfortune to have relocated themselves to africa or south america in advance of ww2

if america expands its war on the world, where would an american be safe?

the rabbit runs, yet the rabbit is eaten

8. If they make stem cell therapy a crime
I have parkinson's disease. Right now there are states bills in congress that says if i even mention stem cell i could be fined. Also f stem cell becomes legal in other countries and i seek treatment and if come back to the us I can be jailled upon my return.

Pretty pathetic aint it? They call me toddler killer, embryo farmer and everything else all because I want a cure. They say that am not a good christian and that I dont belong in a church because I dont want to be a cripple and dependent on other people for the rest of my life. Now they dont want me in thier country. We'll I'll tell you what I got a lot of fight in this battered body. But if they find a cure for my illness in a different land I'll have to really think about it.

9. Already done it
Believe me, Johannes, my wife and I have had this conversation many a time. I think I am more serious about it than she at this point. Our situation is a difficult one for us. Since we both work at universities, we are surrounded by fellow progressives yet must recognize that conservatives control the major issues outside of "our little paradise". Aside from the economic factors, the one thing that puts the brakes on the whole idea is the work I want to do in future campaigns and, hopefully, get the country back on the "right" track (here in Michigan that means working on Granholm's campaign).

10. Welcome to DU anditos!
:hi:

My husband and I have had the same conversation. It wouldn't be easy for us, due to our business, but we do have our limits as to what we will expose our children to. A draft certainly is one of those limits.

I'm thinking about doing some research and putting up a website with some intel on what the best options are for americans who consider moving .

there's a lot of information for refugees , a bit harder to find information for simple immigration on each european country ....and canada ...

but if i'ld get on and do it , I'll let you know .

Also feel for you guys , best of luck and in this world , who knows , it might all turn out all right .

13. Would love to leave the US...
This used to be a nice country to reside in but I would leave and live in Europe if I could just get my metrics and foreign languages down! But that is maybe my own adventurism here, otherwise, I think we are just waiting out the disaster that this current administration has brought upon us. Do wish us luck!!
