Presidential Visit to Scouts Jamboree Is Postponed
Despite Storm Delay and Heat Stress, Youths Carry On With Activities After Deaths of 4 Troop Leaders

By Karin Brulliard
Washington Post Staff Writer

FORT A.P. HILL, Va., July 27 -- Tens of thousands of Boy Scouts, hoping to get things back to normal at their National Jamboree after four Scout leaders were killed on opening day, endured more disappointment and hardship Wednesday as they learned that President Bush had delayed his visit and as hundreds of people were treated for heat-related conditions.

The announcement that severe storms prompted the president's postponement came after the Scouts waited for more than two hours in the blazing sun in their dress uniforms, and was met with loud boos.

Last night, officials announced on the Boy Scouts Web site that about 300 people were treated yesterday for conditions due to excessive heat. The statement said that most were seen at an on-post medical facility and released. A small number were transported to hospitals, where they were reported to be in stable condition. Scout officials declined further comment late last night.

1. Now he's torturing Boy Scouts?
Stand up in the same position for 3 hours straight in intense heat.

Did they get 2 choices of fruit?

3. They Are Alive Only To Be Used As Props For The Chimp
Edited on Thu Jul-28-05 08:53 AM by Beetwasher
Why should he care? They should be GLAD they were made to wait for hours in oppressive heat only to have him cancel! They should be glad four of their leaders died for Chimpy and hundreds became sick from the heat, only to have him cancel anyway. They are their for HIS use and should happy that he was even THINKING of coming.

6. He's just toughening them up
for later disposal in Iraq, or Iran, Syria, etc..

A cool, REAL President would have sent a freaking BAND to play there - someone hep to express his apology..

Jesus, all he had to do was send a freaking ICE CREAM TRUCK and let them gorge on cold stuff - they would have loved him forever for that..

Idiots. Amateurs, straight from Texas and don't know a damn thing about being a world leader, can't even handle freaking BOY SCOUTS..

Or maybe it was that Boy Scouts demand TRUTH as part of their pledge :) and Bush is all OUT OF IT..

7. Please convince me that death, despair, and destruction does not follow..
this person called the President? It started during his first days in office when his Enron buddies were on a submarine joyride and surfaced in the middle of an ocean and killed several Japanese students....Remember?

10. The writer says "four Scout Leaders were killed.." Makes it sound like
murder. What's with this writing? Should have been "succumbed to the heat conditions after standing for two hours." OR, "Four Scout
Leaders died in the record 100 degree temperatures waiting for President Bush to arrive."

What's with ...Kill...Kill...Kill? :eyes:

11. The scout leaders offed themselves
by not following the most basic rules.

They were setting up a meeting tent, with long aluminum tent poles, and made contact with high tension wires above them.

A tragedy, but an easily avoided one which they created themselves.

13. The Leaders Were Killed By Electricity The Day Prior
That was the purpose for this Prez-Dunce visit...to "mourn" their passing...only Bushie didn't like the conditions so he let the already distraught and worn out kids standing in the heat for hours. FUCKWITTAGE!

14. It's worse than I thought.
Two Hours they waited in the sun in dress uniforms?

Is that fire truck spraying them to try to cool them off?

It looks like they're inside a fence. Do you supposed they weren't allowed to disperse to cooler locations? It seems like common sense would have told the adults to get the kids out of there when the day dragged on and they were getting sick.

19. UPDATE: Bush's visit with Scouts put off Again!
Bush's visit with Scouts put off again

Associated Press

WASHINGTON - President Bush's trip to the Boy Scout jamboree has been postponed again, a day after some 300 people at the national gathering were sickened while waiting for him in hot, humid weather.

--snip--

http://www.sunherald.com/mld/sunherald/news/breaking_news/12245578.htm

Yet another: "What if Clinton did this?" story. Could you imagine the outrage from every commentator on TV over the callosness of such an act?

To Bush, The Boy Scouts Are Props To Be Used At His Leisure. They should be GRATEFUL that Bush has even deigned to acknowledge their meager existence and that they get the chance to get sick and die in oppressive heat for their glorious leader, who may or may not ever even show up. At least Bush considered showing up, that should be enough for them!

"But on Thursday morning, White House press secretary Scott McClellan said the Scouts had asked the president to put off his appearance yet again, until Sunday."

Right. The scouts asked the President to delay so more of them could get sick and possibly die in the oppressive heat.

"But on Thursday morning, White House press secretary Scott McClellan said the Scouts had asked the president to put off his appearance yet again, until Sunday."

Maybe they're all going home on Saturday, leaving * with an empty lot when (IF) he ever does deign to arrive.
