Al Qaeda Training Manual
Was listening to Jerry Springer and he said it was posted on our Deptartment of Justice's website.

I did a search, and I'll be damned -- there it is:

http://www.usdoj.gov/ag/trainingmanual.htm

Now the big question is, "WHY"????

7. Why wasn't it translated into a word document? It makes no sense to
copy it to a PDF file, does it?

NOPE.

Well anyone who falls for this pile of shit is really, really just plain stupid and deserves to be scared to death.

10. I was thinking the same thing
The pages are crooked too.

Maybe they don't want the text to come up in search engines.

But it's very unprofessional looking and scary that our government is being operated by boobs that can't even scan a page in straight.

11. Using .pdf is actually the only thing I understand
With a .pdf you insure your formatting and otherwise protect the integrity (and in this case I use that word loosely) of your document.

12. I think you misunderstand
This isn't the original document. It is translated by the government, so there is no original document's integrity to preserve. So it might as well been placed up as text.

16. no, actually, I do understand
why put it up in word? this is a scan of the document they translated after the seizure. Its standard practice to put up scans of official documents. Look on any govt. site, you will find very very few Word documents.

19. I didn't say to use a Word format, but point taken...
Edited on Fri Jul-29-05 10:05 AM by djohnson
If you go to the 'Electronic Reading Room' on that website there is a combination of html and pdf links to documents and most (not all) the pdf's contain text and not tiff images.

But I understand that they probably wanted to get the information out quickly instead of spending the resources converting it to a better format.

Still seems fishy, somehow, just don't know why yet. :freak:

20. Ignorant at least, fishy at worst
I certainly agree.

And right, sorry, you weren't the one who said word. However, I do think the intent is to show that that this is a scan of an original document. I personally tend to trust .pdf more than html or "loose format" documents and it is a standard for displaying orignial documents. My guess is the Feds are relying on that feeling of authenticity.

14. A PDF File
Edited on Fri Jul-29-05 09:29 AM by Beaver Tail
Is a commonly accepted file format for transferring documents across the internet. All you need is a free plug-in to view it. You do not have to purchase a Word Processor to view it (this may be one reason). You also cannot edit this particular document without a lot of trouble as it is a TIFF image in a PDF Wrapper. It helps to ensure document integrity.

The TIFF image in a PDF Wrapper also makes the text unsearchable. The only way to search for it is either by document title or if meta data was added to hidden headers in the document.

27. hmmmmm, "to somehow justify their lies and treason" is the best reason
I can come up with.

This document and its' alleged original are as phony as the lying fucks in the white house.

Oh wait, that's not the proper thing for me to say. I'm supposed to believe this pile of shit was actually written by some skeery muslim jihadists want to kill us all!!!!

I wish I was that dumb.

mostly to show the Al Qaeda mindset, looks like.

22. Well
I guess now that terrorist training manuals are freely available to everyone it will make it easier to justify breaking into anyone's home who has looked at this information. They're just coming up with more reasons to prosecute us that have never existed before, seatbelts, drugs, now information possession to name a few.

Everyone who clicked any of these links probably are now prime candidates for surveillance, and nobody will question the government if any of us disappear because of this manufactured justification.

23. So, are you suggesting a kind of entrapment?
All those who click on a manual solicited by the DOJ on their own website will now be added to the suspected terrorist database and subject to unconstitutional searches and seizures?

Wouldn't that be friggin' nuts!

26. Actually this might be a valid point....
Smoking Gun had it for years, yet the DOJ is just now posting it. This information is valuable to security profesionals and just people looking out. Makes you wonder how important they really consider our security.
