"I'm Swiss" Bill Maher on HBO last night.
I'm sure many DU'ers saw Bill Maher's new special "I'm Swiss" on HBO last night.

It was hysterical, and he was in rare form.
I've watched it twice (thank you Tivo) and it's the most I've laughed in awhile. Bush and the neo-cons took a beating.

"How come we can't have a COOL country?
With a President that has a tan, wears expensive suits and has affairs with mistresses, and all the newspapers ignore it because you know...that's amore!"

"This a such a nice story. That's right. Your precious little girl is a whore. Little Ashlee is down at the mall selling her coochie for Gucci".

"They hate us for our freedoms! They hate us for our freedoms! Hey, hate the Dutch. I've been to Amsterdam.
If freedom is what's bugging you so much, then hate the pot-smoking, whore mongering, Dutch people and leave us Swiss people the fuck alone".

He was on fire in this show.
The right wing and especially Bush were savaged.
If this is an indication of where his mindset is, his show is going to be great this year!

2. It Was Difficult To Watch On My Direct TV Dish
Probably big storms to the south somewhere, that happens some times. Anyway it kept cutting off so badly you couldn't make out about half of what was being said. I suppose it will be shown many times between all the HBO channels. I look forward to actually being able to see it.

5. It was one of the funniest standup shows I have seen in a long time.
His bit on religion was right up there with George Carlin.

7. Meh. Parts were funny.
He's still dead-wrong on a number of things - like going for the easy applause hook by saying the soldiers in Iraq are "defending" us (HOW, BILL? HOW THE FUCKING HELL ARE THEY DEFENDING US BY BEING THERE?), and saying the "My Pet Goat" thing was only seven minutes, when in reality it was more like half an hour.

He also said "God" a LOT for a self-professed atheist, but even I'VE done that in mixed company, it's so prevalent in America, so I don't really fault him on that one.

16. I do, too - I think most atheists who were raised catholic do it.
I'm pretty sure Maher's mother was catholic.

22. Oh, that's a good point.
I'm a thrice-failed Christian - belief in unproven things never took - so that does make sense.

8. Happened to catch it at a hotel last night
LIked it.. I could have done without the "My friend Ann Coulter" bit. My favorite was "I don't hate America, I'm embarassed by it"

13. I like his show better
His standup is dull. I don't find political stand up that funny. It dates too quickly.

17. Only caught the last half of it
At least this country isnt so far gone that someone like Maher cant do a show like that, although he did get booted from ABC.

Funny as hell,great observations.

19. It was good, but he did 'borrow' a couple bits that I noticed.
The 10 commandment bit was a version of Carlin's and the drugs have done good things was a shorter and not as good version of Bill Hicks' bit. But it was a decent program to watch.

20. He just recycled old Real Time "New Rules"...
and strung them together into an hour and a half long comedy "special".

They even used the Real Time song!

Frankly, I was expecting more.

21. I laughed my ass off.
I thought it was a great show -- and so much of what he said is true. I loved at the beginning when he said he's upset that more people aren't upset (about the election and the way thngs are in this country). Right on, Bill.

I still don't understand how he can be friends with Mann Coulter.

Can't wait for the new season of Real Time to begin on 8/19.
