Hold on to your dinner. First Arnold, now here comes Dennis Miller...
Godammit, I live in CA and I don't want these assholes screwing up my home state. Of course I shouldn't even be thinking of my interests -- these thugs are gonna take things over, piece by piece, and ruin it for everybody. Repugs will stop at nothing. They want the coastal commission, the judgeships, control over districting and voting, the works.

We've got to stop this shit here and now. Excuse my language, but I am absolutely livid with rage. We have a president who can't string a sentence together and who fronts for a cabal of criminals; we're being told by the RW media that we're on the eve of having "fun candidate" Arnold as governor; and now the capper -- scumbag Dennis Miller being floated as a candidate for senator? WTF? When someone says that the Repugs will stop at nothing, you'd better believe it!

California DUers, do you really want to stick it to the Republicans? Vote NO on the recall. Please. This is deadly serious stuff.

Republican Party seeks to draft Miller into politics
By Joe Mathews
LOS ANGELES TIMES

Arnold Schwarzenegger may be the latest celebrity to transform himself into a candidate for high California office. But if some Republican political operatives have their way, he will not be the last.

The comedian Dennis Miller is being talked about, apparently seriously, as a Republican candidate for a statewide post. Three Republican strategists interviewed in the past week have said they want to draft Miller into politics. One, a prominent Republican operative and Schwarzenegger aide who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said that once the recall election is over, he plans to recruit Miller to challenge Barbara Boxer for her U.S. Senate seat next year.

1. Celebrities should keep their mouths shut!
Unless they are Republicans, then the media will kiss their asses nonstop!

3. sort of off topic question
I've seen that clip from the debate - the one where Arianna took a (very legitimate) swipe at Arnold for his misogyny - about a thousand times now, and I STILL do not understand what Arnold meant by his reply of (paraphrased), "I know of part for you in Terminator 4." Everyone laughed, but I don't get it. What did he mean by that? What's so funny?

The only interpretation I've heard so far was from the Daily Show, where Stewart made a crack about Arnold responding to charges of misogyny by threatening to kill a woman. But if that was Arnold's implication, how the holy fuck is that funny?

9. My take on that
I think he meant to imply that he would like to dunk her head in a toilet (as he did to a female character in some movie) or else was teasing her that he was going to "kill" her in the movie.

Arianna got called on her remark about him, but the moderator did not repremand this crude remark.

I just do NOT understand how this pig could appeal to anyone, and find the prospect of him being elevated to a powerful office at a time of crisis absolutely bizarre.

I know that approximately 29-33% of Americans are crazy and stupid, but I do have faith that most are not, and I certainly hope they show signs of sanity on Oct 7.

26. You and Jon Stewart Have It On The Nose
I was so pleased to hear Huffington bring up the real issue of his misogyny, and wasn't a bit surprised that Jon Stewart was the only person to get it.

This is from Robert Scheer's piece in The nation:

In all fairness, the statements made on the set of Terminator 3 to Entertainment Weekly should be evaluated in their entirety, within the context of the article, which reads as follows:

But nothing in T3 bears Schwarzenegger's creative stamp more than his epic tussle with the Terminatrix, a battle that begins in a bathroom. The sequence was made longer and more elaborate thanks to the actor's largess--and his singular imagination.
"As we were rehearsing, I saw this toilet bowl," says Schwarzenegger, an impish smile crossing his face. "How many times do you get away with this--to take a woman, grab her upside down, and bury her face in a toilet bowl? I wanted to have something floating in there," he adds. Apparently, he was vetoed. "They thought it was my typical Schwarzenegger overboard," he says. "The thing is, you can do it, because in the end, I didn't do it to a woman--she's a machine! We could get away with it without being crucified by who-knows-what group." (Note to California's Democratic strategists: The soccer-mom set is now yours for the taking!)

Perhaps the magazine's reporter was right about the soccer mom vote, but why wouldn't men also find this blatant expression of hostility toward women deeply offensive?

28. It was Kristianna Loken's head
He gave the fucking female costar of his movie a swirlie.

I interpreted the "Terminator 4" remark to mean, "I want to kill you on camera." And probably not with blanks either.

4. I remember the little bastard
when he had to beg to get little gigs on a local talk show in Pittsburgh. He was actually funny then, before he turned to the dark side. I think after the assholes who pull the lever for Arnie live with him for a little while, they'll run screaming from anymore actors in office. This is actually becoming surreal!

20. ugh, no
I think Sheen's too smart to fall for any flattery that gets thrown his way. One of the big differences between Pugs and Dems is that we try to elect leaders and legislators. They only seem to want to run spokesmodels lately.

6. I can't imagine anyone less likely to be successful in politics
He' a smarmy, condescending, self-important, egotistical little, little man. He's not nearly as popular as he would like to think he is. And when push comes to shove, he's not getting the vote.

7. What's the deal with Republicans and celebrities?
Remember in 94 when Sonny Bono won and Newt had that obnoxious rally in front of the Capitol and he had Bono front and center the whole time? I don't know how they can, with a straight face, criticize a celebrity for speaking their mind when they keep trying to run them for office. How long can they get away with treating people like their stupid? I guess as long as it works. Answered my own question there, sorry.

10. Try and wrap your brain around this
Remember, before the invasion of Iraq, when there were massive protest marches worldwide, and various celebrities were adding their voices? Remember the "popular reaction" -- that people were incensed that stupid actors would dare get involved with politics and should just shut up?

Wanna bet its the same people who are hailing Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Great Hope of Mankind, and who voted for Sonny Bono, and who want to see Dennis Miller in the Senate?

19. Doesnt look like it to me - their tactics make perfect sense.
I forsee more of this due to natural selection. If a party adopts a tactic that works and another party doesnt, guess whos going the way of the dodo.

Actors get aquainted with you emotionally, politicians rarely do. This will continue to work and were going to adopt the same tactics if thats what it takes to stay afloat.

27. Damn Straight I'm Voting NO
Hell No, if there's that option. Even though I think Arianna Huffington is the smartest person in the race, I'll vote for Bustamonte simply because keeping the state Democratic for the '04 election is just too important to take a chance.

I hope everyone remembers how Miller fawned over Perot and we see those clips over and over again if he decides to run.
