IRAQ ALERT! Please Read this from MoveOn.org! 10,000 Calls Needed!
Edited on Tue Sep-30-03 10:40 AM by KoKo01
I received this and was asked to pass it along. I called Edwards and Dole's Office. Please go to the site and check it out!
Dear MoveOn member,

With an $87 billion request on the table for the occupation in Iraq, President
Bush has presented no exit strategy, secured no significant help from other
countries, and offered no explanations for the enormous figure. Congress is
poised to give him the money he's requested without any restrictions or
even a serious debate: the Senate is likely to vote to spend the money on
Friday.

We need our elected representatives to hold President Bush accountable
for his misleading statements and his mismanagement of the war in Iraq.
Handing over $87 billion in taxpayers' money without requiring Bush to
articulate a strategy just isn't responsible. That's why we need your help to
make over 10,000 calls to Congress this week, letting Senators know
where their constituents stand on an $87 billion blank check.

Please call your Senators right now. You can reach them at:

http://www.moveon.org/

When you reach a staffer, let him or her know that you're a constituent. Then explain that you don't want
Congress to give the President $87 billion without a requirement that he work with the United Nations and
without firing those responsible for mismanaging Iraq -- starting with Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.
Remember, polite calls are always more impactful.

Once you've called, please let us know at:http://www.moveon.org/

We've put up a progress bar on that page to measure the number of calls. Help us reach 10,000 calls -- please
ask your friends and colleagues to help by forwarding this email to them, too.

Our campaign calling for Donald Rumsfeld to resign and for President Bush to transfer control over the
rebuilding of Iraq to the UN is rapidly gaining momentum. Over 318,000 people have now signed the petition to
Congress. And late last week, Presidential candidates John Kerry and Howard Dean called on Defense
Secretary Rumsfeld to step down.

We have also launched a full-page New York Times ad at a Win Without War press conference in Washington,
DC. The ad features Larry Syverson, a Virginia engineer whose sons are in the military in Iraq. In the ad, Larry
says "I’m a patriotic American with three sons in the military, two serving in Iraq . . . But the leaders they serve
have not acted honorably. They have failed my sons. They have failed all of us. At the very least, Donald
Rumsfeld must go."

Already, the ad's received coverage from CNN, Good Morning America, and other major media outlets. After
CNN ran an online poll asking whether Donald Rumsfeld should resign, over 90% of respondents said he
should.

You can view the ad at:

We need your help to keep the momentum growing. Please call your Senators at the numbers above. $87
billion is an awful lot of money.

Sincerely,
--Carrie, Eli, Joan, Noah, Peter, Wes, and Zack
