Number of Wounded Soldiers in Iraq
I was watching Ted Kennedy on C-SPAN yesterday, and he said that the Pentagon does not want to release the number of wounded soldiers. Is there a reason for this? Maybe the number wounded is very significant.

2. I think that figure is wrong.
Lou Dobbs puts the number up every night and it's between 1600 and 1700. The 8000 number is likely the number of soldiers who have had to be taken out of Iraq/Kuwait for physical health or psychological reasons. I remember that number being something like 6000 over the summer.

As for not wanting to release the number of wounded, Republicans apparently went nuts behind closed doors over the Pentagon's classifying the number of wounded as "classified." It seems that now they are releasing the numbers.

5. a quick search
turned up this from a month ago,
www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A12096-2003Sep1?language=printer

<snip>
Since the war began, more than 6,000 service members have been flown back to the United States. The number includes the 1,124 wounded in action, 301 who received non-hostile injuries in vehicle accidents and other mishaps, and thousands who became physically or mentally ill.
<snip>

not sure where I got the 8000 number?

**Also, I think that long term illnesses from Depleted Uranium will be a very devastating and 'hidden' statistic.

That total does not include the 6000+ soldiers who were
evacuated from Iraq due to medical reasons.

heatstroke, bad back, rashes, heart attacks, broken bones...etc
