Please debunk or confirm - prisoners released in NO?
A neighbor who is a volunteer fireman has been offered a 120 day contract to go to New Orleans and help out. He told me that he probably wouldn't go down there unless he could carry a handgun.

When I asked why, he told me that he had heard (around the fire house) that prisoners had been released by the police (or guards?) and that they were roaming the streets.

I searched here and see some posts about prisoners that were chained together, and were observed sitting under guard on a bridge.

Were there prisoners that were actually released? Or is this just a stupid rumor?

2. I heard on one of the caable news shows tonight,
with film, that some were being released by NO because they had nowhere to put them. This was said by an FBI man, and he said they have now made the Amtrak statuion into a temporary jail. Communications are still very poor and the NO police did not know of this jail yet. The FBI is there now and when the water goes down more they are supposedly going to comb the city. As for the prisoners who were sitting on the highway--I remember them but haven't heard a thing. They were supposed to be bussed to another town, the last I heard. Most of the looters have been jailed. So they say.

4. Sen. Landrieu on ABC said something about prisoners being evacuated
This was after the flood. Cops swimming out to the flooded jail with handcuffs in mouths. They herded prisoners to an overpass where they were picked up. Said in case anyone wondered why anyone would consider them a priority, it was in order to prevent their escaping and wreaking havoc.

That was right before she threatened to pop Bush one in the mouth.

6. They were evacuated a few days ago....
St. Bernard Parish inmates - Calls about Prisoners – All prisoners in the greater NO area evacuated safe and sound. Inmates have been spread throughout the state and will be returned when it is safe to do so.

7. It's true
see here... http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=4675563&mesg_id=4675800

I wrote about it yesterday.

they let the prisoners group with the families and kept them from escaping the city with machine gun toting security forces.
There were also many detainees that were armed.

It is the witnesses opinion that is the reason for the rapes...but he said everyone was losing their minds by the third day without water.

I have it on tape...Hour long detailed interview

If you were to hear it you'd have no problem believing some are still being detained right now at Fema camps.
