If you're a sports fan you probably have a favorite sport and team that you follow. For arguments sake, let's make our favorite sport baseball and our favorite team the Philadelphia Phillies.
Before I try to make my point, let me first say that anyone who listens to "sports radio" knows that everybody and their brother is an expert in how to run the organization. From knowing when to substitute players, knowing why so and so didn't lay down the squeeze bunt, knowing when to hit and run, questioning why a certain relief pitcher was or wasn't brought in to knowing who to trade for etc., etc..
By and large you have to give these dedicated sports fans credit. They know their stuff. They are well versed on the history of the game, statistics of players, etc., etc. They are also VERY CRITICAL of their favorite team and are quick to point out what needs to be done to improve the team and or manager.
Now let's throw the kool-aid drinking neo-con philosophy into the mix.
As I said before, the Phillies are our favorite team. And as a Phillies fan myself, I am not too keen on their present manager -Charlie Manuel.
My sports fan opinion of him would be - He's not aggressive, makes stupid player moves, and seems as if he's taking a nap in the dugout during the game.
My neo-con opinion would be - he's the best manager in the National League and any opinion other than that is UN-Phillie like. Do you see where I'm going with this folks?
Jimmie Rollins hit a triple last night against the Astros but in the process of rounding first base he missed the bag so he had to go back to first base to retag the base and ended up having to stay at first base. Thus a would be triple ends up being a single. A sports fan opinion would be critical of Rollins for not being sure to touch the base. The neo-con view would be - he didn't miss the bag, he just wanted to make sure that the umpire was aware that he touched first base and in the process the ball mysteriously re-entered play before he could move along the baselines any further.
How ridiculous would it be to argue that the Phillies are in first place in the National League East when it is the Atlanta Braves? The neo-con would insist that the Phillies are in first place regardless of the facts.
And there lies the rub. In the world of sports, everyone knows who won, who lost, who is in first and who is in last. Its pretty honest, in your face, no denying the obvious truth of the matter.
In the neo-con rightwing republican world, reality is whatever they want to think it is with no accountability, no responsibility.
