New York Police in New Orleans

I was watching MSNBC this evening and saw all the New York Police streaming into New Orleans.

I was wondering how long it would take for there to be a tie to 9/11. You know we can't have any event without hearing 9/11 9/11 9/11 9/11. Just heard the talking head say "Help for troubled New Orleans, the hero's of 9/11. Don't get me wrong I have nothing but respect for the NYPD and what they dealt with on 9/11 but this is NOT 9/11 and it makes me sick that it's being used to help the jackass in the WH back peddle his way out of yet another screw up.

Why are they even there? The city is all but a ghost town and it is swarming with military. Is this just for show?
