So depressed about gay marriage getting the veto in California
ugh..so I get home after working a 10 hour day and going to school for 2 /12 hrs and grocery shopping..hoping to see that the supposed liberal Republican Arnold would sign the gay marriage bill. I guess it was stupid of me to get my hopes up. This country is so disgusting to me lately. To top it all off...a bunch of people in my business class debated against me, regarding the hurricane saying the feds have no responsibility to the people trapped down south...they said they should have left their homes like they were told. I honestly do not have any faith in the goodness of Americans. I don't think most Americans are good. I think they are mostly selfish evil fascist assholes. The fact that half of my class was okay with fellow Americans starving to death was enough to make me sick to my stomach. they also said that the welfare system made them all lazy...to top it all off.

6. I go
to Delta community college in Saginaw Michigan. A city with a large black population. I guess I have always just been a huge bleeding heart and this country is just never going to see things the way I do. I need to get used to it.

4. Sounds like they were listening to Rush today and copied his talking
points. He said something very similar today. I didn't hear his show but I heard a clip that Rachel Maddow played tonight on the Majority Report. He was going off on how "those people expect the government to take care of all their needs" ... then he said they expected the government to build them a levee ... like they could go out and build one on their own!

I know how you feel. Hopefully, they will override the veto. I hadn't heard that he vetoed it, but I hope they override it.

Here's a  from at least this American who shares your frustration.

10. I heard the same clip tonight.
It's amazing what these RW'ers will say. What's scary, I think they believe themselves.

5. Just one comment.
"I honestly do not have any faith in the goodness of Americans. I don't think most Americans are good."

Don't let the vocal minority drown out the good will that you're seeing (i.e. donations of money, food, clothes, medical supplies, housing, labor/time, etc.)

Just my opinion...

7. If you're in the Bay, I'm surprised you run into such bigotry.
I thought that was the province of the south, the valley and the foothills. :( :( :( :( :(

I'm always amused by comments like the one in your post. Why do people use broad sweeping generalizations (geographical bigotry?) to make comments about who is bigoted and racist? Very odd...

areas of Southern California tend to be more "red." That's all. I mistakenly believed the original poster lived in the California Bay Area, which is very blue. I was talking about the voting blocs in California.

16. I made the same assumption at first, Ladyhawk. Bay area means
something very specific here.

It also means we are STUCK with Ahnold....

believe that the wall will come down. Thing is, I don't think it will be over night. :(

13. I used to think that too.
Now I think we will see gas showers and ovens again before we see wedding chapels. Berlin was quite progressive in the late '20s and early '30s, and look what happened.

11. You had to know he wouldn't let the Repugs lose this...
They'd lose one of their most valuable talking point: "No state has ever passed gay marriage". They DID say "no legislature has passed..." so they will have to alter that a tiny bit. Still, the talking point that such things should be instituted through legislative process, rather than through judicial decisions, and that no state has yet done so, remains so long as no state actually passes it.
