My Response to My Freeper Fundie Dad After Receiving RW E-MAIL From Him.
Edited on Thu Sep-08-05 01:15 AM by artemisia1
"This is bullshit. Failures of local and state governments in the evacuation are immaterial to the Federal Goverment's response. They are separate issues. No thinking person could characterize FEMA's response as anything but a FAILURE. The head of FEMA didn't even fucking know that thousands of people were at the Convention Center and that hundreds were dying of dehydration. 4-6 FEDERAL C-130's could have dropped sufficient supplies upon the Superdome and Convention Center to have prevented hundreds of deaths. Five days after the hurricane, three days after the breach of the levees, and 9 UNFORGIVEABLE DAYS after the storm was forecasted to hit New Orleans, NORTHCOM still did not have sufficient orders to respond. They had SUFFICIENT RESOURCES to have gotten THOUSANDS TO SAFETY BEFORE THEY PERISHED. They did not receive those orders until Friday afternoon when our President realized that he was in deep shit politically.

Now, there is no doubt in my mind that the local governments failed deeply, but I cannot do anything about their failure. The federal failure is a NATIONAL DISGRACE. Mississippi and Alabama likewise had insufficient, and often nonexistent FEMA help. The idea of FEMA is that LOCAL GOVERNMENTS WILL BE OVERWHELMED AND UNABLE TO HANDLE MASSIVE CATASTROPHES.

No amount of Republican talking points will sway me, and I pray to God in heaven, the majority of Americans, from holding this Administration responsible for the greatest failure of leadership in this century. Those, such as Hannity and O'Reilly and Limbaugh who are defending these FUCKING ASSHOLES, are cultists who put party loyalty before their country and wouldn't kow something if it hit them right between the eyes."

With whole cities, towns and regions completely destroyed, I don't know how much local and state gov't even exists to tackle this tragedy. The feds' blaming state and local gov'ts is inexcusable.

10. Yes, this is the heart of it. it shows how desperate they are.
1. They can not deny that SOMETHING went desperately wrong.
2. They can't admit the mistakes were made by the feds because then it becomes Bush's problem for not returning to Washington sooner and taking control of the situation.
3. They have to blame local and state governments.

They are so desperate in order to have to take this approach since everyone knows that once the governor requests that a federal major disaster be declared and once it is declared (which Bush did on August 29 (it was requested to be declared on the 28th)) it IMMEDIATELY becomes a federal responsibility.

Check out this thread I posted a while back.

12. I know one thing......if I'm a Democratic Governor of a State, I know
I'm going to assume that George Bush is going to play politics with FEMA and life-and-death emergencies. Would he have hung his brother out to dry like he did Blanco? I think not. He's destroying the state-federal comity that has taken decades to develop.....and maybe that was his point. Creating distrust in the federal government. I'm sick of his ability to hide behind incomptence. This is really no difference from 9/11 when they shocked us with their "incompetence". This tme, I wasn't shocked....it criminal manslaughter.

19. Here's my rant to my RW family...............
I don't know if you all have followed the mess that is New Orleans and the Gulf Coast, but I've been biting my tongue not to call you, especially Lindsay (Hey DUers, this person, my cousin, is the friggin SECRETARY OF THE PA YOUNG REPUBLICANS....ugh). As staunch Bush supporters, I do wonder what you all think, though if you continue to defend him/them, it's probably best we don't speak for a while. I'm fucking appalled at what was allowed to happen. He humiliated us in front of the whole world by allowing this fiasco to happen when resources and supplies were lined up and ready to go BEFORE THE HURRICANE HIT. Just waiting for orders. And, let's go ahead with the Republican talking point about blaming it on the Governor and Mayor (and I don't doubt mistakes were made across the board).......the point is, he's the one person who could have done something even if they were fucking up, and he didn't!!! I would think, if nothing else, that pisses you off. It showed no fucking common sense and it was UNPATRIOTIC and there's no excuse whatsoever.

Screw the latest talking point about the "blame game." It's called PERSONAL ACCOUNTABILITY, and it's something this administration has shouted about for a long time, and rightly so. I believe in personal accountability as well. It just doesn't seem to apply to them.

I've included a letter was written by a woman in the Army Reserves, and I'm forwarding it because she says what I feel. There's a shitload of people in the military that don't know why the fuck they're there. We're not supposed to be nation building (one of Bush's campaign pledges). We sure as shit aren't spreading TRUE democracy, 'cause we don't even have it here. I have enlistment forms printed out and ready to go, so when I meet a single, childless supporter of Bush's ideology and war in Iraq, calling anyone who questions Bush unpatriotic, I give them one. I firmly believe if you support this man and this war, and if you are single and childless (and within enlistment age), there's no excuse whatsoever for you not to enlist and give our troops a break. THAT is one way to genuinely support our troops. Their tours have been extended too many times, and as I said, someone who supports the effort can put their heart into it 100%, but a lot of these guys and gals are doing it just because they have to but have a lot of anger and doubt, especially with the course of events the last few years. Take their place and give them a break.

Here's a little tidbit you may not know. Halliburton got the contract to rebuild the ports BEFORE DISASTER AID CAME FOR THE PEOPLE!!!!! That speaks volumes.

Culture of Life my ass.

This huge failure woke a lot of Bush supporters up. He basically won the last election on convincing people that they were safe with him. Who the fuck feels safe now? It's a joke. Where did all that money go?!!!! What Homeland Security?!!!! And how many people do you know who are better off now than five years ago?

I want their corrupt asses out of Washington, and I pray a decent leader steps forward. No, I don't have anyone specifically in mind. They're obviously few and far between. I personally think we've fallen so far from grace as a country that we should start from scratch. Get back to We the People, not We The Country Run By Multi-Billion Dollar Corporations. I honestly believe partisanship is unpatriotic. BEING PATRIOTIC IS BEING LOYAL TO YOUR COUNTRY, not a party, not a particular person, especially if that person has not earned respect and loyalty. It should be the country before party, and that seems to get lost when you become a rabid follower of either side, spouting whatever talking points are in the memo that day. The average American who watches TV is even seeing through the damn shallowness of the talking points. And you sure as shit know those of us who read, online....from various sources.....see through a hell of a lot more of what's been going on. Don't these people have an original thought, ever? Right now it's only Republican talking points, because the Democrats, until today on the floor, have been essentially silent. Which, to me, is itself a crime. Every one of them should have chartered a jet to get those people supplies and help when they saw the government was failing those people, just as Al Gore did. I guess they're staying silent because they figure the Bush people are hanging themselves without any help from them. If there were real leaders, they'd work harder to truly merge the values and find common ground. Someone who would walk the walk, not just talk the talk. A uniter, my ass once again. This president has been the worst divider ever - even worse than Clinton's blow job, which, by the way, didn't lead to anyone's death. This president is the WORST PRESIDENT EVER.

I love you, but this is huge shit. Not typical political squabbling about taxes, appropriations, blah, blah. I told you before that this group SCARES me. I know they all lie....which doesn't mean we should accept it (there's a ton of people, including me, on a mission to make ALL of them aware that we're watching and they're not going to get away with the typical Washington corruption any more without being called on it; unless they shut down the Internet some way, and even if they try to control corporate media....they're going to learn transparency, and learn that being honest from the start and admitting you fucked up is preferable; it's the coverup that always nails them. Didn't anyone learn from Watergate?). So, yes, they all lie....but these are very, very dangerous lies and levels of incompetence (or manipulation) we're dealing with in this group, and New Orleans is, I'm afraid, the tip of the iceberg. And, Lindsay, if Karl Rove is still someone you see as a mentor and someone you aspire to be like, all I can say is God help you. He is brilliant, I'll give him that. But there's no integrity in that man whatsoever. Hopefully that will be shown in the form of indictments in the very near future.

My part is done. I Now you know exactly how I feel.....lol. Now on to Lieutenant d'Entremont:

You told how you felt and gave facts as well. I didn't know Halliburton got the contract before aid. I knew they did very close after it but not before. It does speak volumes. Ugh. And I don't think Karl Rove is a genius. He's just your typical bully who does pranks on people.
