1. Yep, I admit, I was surprised, but I'm not a MIHOP person either.
I was more surprised that, even on vacation, Shrub didn't get people right on the storm problem! At least this time, he had a well publicized warning!!! I don't expect him to care what happens to NO, but it would have helped HIS ratings, and that he cares about!

I also don't believe in coincidences, and it is very weird that some disaster always seems to happen when he's on vacation huh?

2. It is strange
I don't think 9/11 was a coincidence. It was perfect timing, but this was. As Jon Stewart has said: every time August comes around and the country is fucked up Bush goes on vacation.

3. I never thought of a hurricane disaster as being a LIHOP......

7. No of course he can't control the weather, BUT....
I was lilstening to some idiot Rep from Fla. this morning as he was trying to defend Mike Brown. He said how great Mike did when the hurricanes hit Florida. Mike was right there with me and Jeb, and we worked together to make sure everything was being done that could be done!!!

Well, what I understood that to mean is that good old Mike was "johhny on the spot" when it was Jeb's state, but sure seemed to fall donw on the job when it came to other States! Shrub can't control the weather, but he sure can control the idiots who work for him, and he didn't do that either!!!!

10. Browny in Florida
People down here are still screaming about FEMA's wonderful job last year. It seems they were giving most of the money to folks in Miami and Miami had no hurricane damage. After that they were seen canvassing affluent neighborhoods in the main hurricane damage area. Seems they never showed up in the highly damaged (poorer) neighborhoods. People who lived in those poorer areas had to find their way to a FEMA office. Some people who had hurricane damage never got a thing. Wealthy neighborhoods got everything they needed, and more. Does that tell you something about Browny's priorities?

5. I mean the aftermath of Katrina being a LIHOP catastrophe.
The federal government could have easily alleviated some of the suffering by...I don't know...showing up on time.

8. I'm not sure that it's entirely LIHOP
but it is certainly, without a doubt, an unavoidable consequence of republican party policies and governmental philosophy. I'd like to believe that if they had known that a cat 5 hurricane would strike NO and the levees would break then they would have done something, but save some kind of precognition, they would not have taken any different action beforehand to prevent or mitigate any of the disaster, because a competent, effective government is counter to their policy goals.

9. So they let people die because acting otherwise would run counter to
their politics. Isn't that the definition of LIHOP.

Maybe not LIHOP in order to purposely rid Lousiann of a Democratic bastion (I don't really buy that), but the LIHOP in order to further their political agenda.

12. I think it's like when you've got a paper to finish for some class...
and you keep putting it off, it's not that you intend to not get it done in time, but your actions lead to that inevetible result. At least in my mind, I think of letting something happen on purpose is done because the results are what you want, so for me at least, this is subtly different...

11. I think they had something planned
to go off, probably still do, but, along comes Katrina and knocks the foundation out of their plan. This storm as awful as it was may have saved the world.
