I wish that our elected Congresspeople would

introduce legislation to fund both the Katrina Cleanup and the Iraq war by a surtax on incomes over $1 million. Right now, we're funding both off budget, thereby making an awful fiscal situation worse and compunding the issues of both of these undertakings.

Every day that Republicans are in control the # of poor is growing and the middle class is being squeezed by debt, energy prices and a stagnant labor market. The truly wealthy are the only ones who have done well these 5 years, and it's time for them to ante up.

While such legislation would probably fail, it would show the true colors of the Republican Party, and would give us another good issue in "06 and '08.

Can anyone see why this is not feasible?
