Can we cease with the eye comments on Roberts?
People can't help the way they look and he has so many other bad attributes we can tear him from limb to limb for...appearances shouldn't be one of them. It's far too petty and mean.

I can go with on petty, and the other stuff. :-)

26. He's a cyborg
Just watch - one day he's going to get particularly stressed out, and you'll see a little smoke coming out of the top of his head. Then his face will pop off to reveal the circuitry beneath. That's when CNN will abruptly cut to a commercial break.

All hell will break lose.

Death and destruction.

You read it here first.

6. It's not his attributes
It's what he's doing with his attributes. The "I've got mashed potatoes in my underwear" grin is gone. He's swallowing his lips, he's so damned tense. His eyes are bloodshot. He's has a permanent wounded puppy look in them that wasn't there before.

It's not petty to point out that the man appears to be bearly holding onto himself in some of the pictures we've seen. Like at a wedding, waiting for the "I do" before you reveal you're banana nutcakes.

That's not petty. That's pertinent.

15. Absolutely little clarkie !

When I first layed eyes on GWB I knew there was something wrong with that chimp. Something in his eyes and the way he carried himself.

There is a quality of Mr. Starry Eyes that sends a signal that he is drinking the kool aid big time.

Since he will not tell the truth in the hearings, we will not know until he overthrows all the Civil Rights Laws we have worked for and Roe Vs. Wade etc., before we will truly KNOW him by his deeds.

Until this scum on earth, blinky eyed monster, sits on the bench, I will judge him by any means necessary.

And my eyes tell me that his eyes signal that " All is not right in this man."

This man is EYED and Dangerous!

21. That's exactly right.
It isn't about his eyes, it's about what is behind them. The man's expressions are completely inappropriate for the settings he is in. His facial expressions are downright bizarre. It has nothing to do with looks. Roberts is a good-looking man. Saying that he twists his face and bugs his eyes in freakish ways at the oddest times is not being petty and mean. It is being concerned about the responses of a man who may well become the most powerful lawmaker in the land for the next fifty years. Those responses, both verbal and nonverbal, are far from normal.

11. Well a couple of the comments in other threads
were making fun of his lazy eye.
My daughter has a lazy eye...she was teased when she was younger.
Not that I care so much about his feelings...but it's like being a minority and reading a racist joke from someone who doesn't realize your nationality--you will always know that they are racist behind the scenes, and folks here who may have eye problems may feel uncomfortable with some of the comments made here.

His eyes are not lazy, IMO.

His eyes tell me that he ...

On heavy medication

Has some emotional problems

Is a low down dirty dog that is trying his best to hide behind LIES.

9. I understand what you mean - it's pointless.
However, I was shocked when people didn't want questions to be raised about Roberts possibly adopting illegally. Apparently, that would be "bashing his kids". No matter that Roberts may very well have broken the law, kids were involved. Can't out a possible future Chief Justice Of The Supreme Court's possibly flouting of the adoption laws, because there are kids involved.

So it doesn't make sense - people will twit him over his facial expressions and the way his eyes look, which doesn't have dookey to do with his suitability as Chief Justice, but when someone brings up the fact that Roberts might have broken the law, and people get all upset because that's "attacking his kids".

Sometimes DU is incredibly frustrating. Come up with something that looks like Roberts has broken the law, it's off limits, but OOOOH, he has nasty googly looking eyes, he's an alien!

Shit.

12. Let's talk frowns. I noticed that Roberts has some laugh lines &
grin marks which does imply he is feeling as often as he is thinking. Probably a human.

Now BTK on the other hand - only with the wrinkle lines on the forehead. Why? All psychopaths do is solve emotional problems like you or I do math. Same sort of problem to them.

Karl Rove? How are his frown lines?

22. Think its fair to attack people for something like this?
When I was a child, a girl in my PE class did a cartwheel, and her heel landed in my eye. It resulted in a concussion and what is known as a "blowout", meaning a bone behind my eye was knocked out. It was replaced with a plastic bone, but I had bad eye muscle damage as a result. I have had three eye surgeries, but because it was and injury and not a problem I was born with, they could never fix it completely.

So my eye is "lazy". Adults always say they didn't notice it, but I know better, because small children are very honest. The thing that bothers me most, is that people have told me, on several occasions, that they think I am not looking them in the eyes when I talk to them. Well, I always make a point to look people in the eye, but I can only do that with my good eye. Although I can see out of the other one, I mentally "ignore" that vision, because it is down and to the right of the correct one. If I didnt ignore it, I would see double.

Kids used to call me cyclops when I was younger. My grandfather once said, while I was present, that it was a shame about my eye injury, because I "used to be such a pretty girl".

So it hurts me to see people here at DU, making fun of Roberts for this reason. It makes me realize that even the kind of people found at DU can sometimes judge me by this unfair standard.

24. I'm sorry you were hurt by the remarks
But I don't think that people were saying these silly things seriously, or are the kind of people that would ever make you uncomfortable in real life. They are just blowing off steam without thinking too much about it and we are all guilty of that, sometimes.

When I was a child, we were playing around in the house, hanging out the first story window that looked down the side, where there was a wire fence. One of us fell, his eye landing directly onto one of the stakes in the fence. It was horrific and by a miracle the surgeon at the local hospital was able to save his eye, at a time when it would have been considered impossible.

No, these things aren't funny for people like yourself.

36. I too am sorry you were hurt by these remarks...
I do not believe anyone here would intentionally be cruel to you or anyone else based on this kind of thing.

But, I think it is important to realize that Roberts is not at all forthcoming--even downright deceptive--in his comments. This leaves us nothing but nonverbal cues to judge his temerity. Thus facial expressions, eye and mouth gestures, body posture all play in here...

And that’s all we’ve got since the * administration will not release documents requested by Democratic Senators that would enlighten us on his opinions as they were applied during previous administrations.

So my bottom line is that his eyes are shifty and he speaks with a forked tongue.
