LA state deceased victims 9-14-05
474 confirmed deaths.

September 14: Updated Number of Deceased Victims Resulting from Hurricane Katrina

* At this time, state officials, working in conjunction with coroners from local parishes have confirmed 474 deaths.

* These numbers have been reported to state officials by local coroners.

* A breakdown of these deaths is as follows:

393 are at the morgue in St. Gabriel

Parish Coroners:
East Baton Rouge – 39
Iberia Parish – 6
Jefferson Parish – 27
St. Charles – 3
St. Tammany Parish – 6

* Any death that is determined to have been caused as a result of Hurricane Katrina will be counted as a hurricane-related death. For example, this applies to people who drowned as well as people who required life-support but had it cut off and died as a result when power was lost during the storm.

7. Bodies found in Orleans parish are most probably taken to
the St. Gabriel morgue, which is the main facility set up to handle large numbers of bodies.

Are only those bodies which have been identified being included in the published body count? I find it very hard to believe that they have found so few.

10. From what I hear from the news, body retrieval has been slow,
that's why the governor was complaining yesterday. I expect the numbers will increase in proportion to the body retrieval effort. Also, I don't think the body has to be identified to be included in the count.

I don't see anything about starvation and dehydration that probably killed more people than drowning.

12. Question
This has been bothering me since they started the body counts.I wonder about all of the above ground tombs. I know it's kind of morbid ,but concerned if any of these might surface.

13. Yes, I have seen at least one photo with a casket which has been
dislodged from its crypt in the background. They did anticipate this to happen with flooding.
