This American Life this week-Killer robots for Christ!
Edited on Sat Oct-08-05 10:28 PM by EstimatedProphet
http://www.thislife.org/ (episode hopefully will be available later this week)

So we're listening to This American Life on NPR this afternoon, and the second segment of the show talked about a war robot contest held in the Southwest (I think in AZ). The war robots are supposed to be testing robitic controls for weapons deployemnt. One of the robots is described as having a giant cross on it. they interviewed a female college student from the team that built it (Indiana State, I believe), and she says that the cross is there "because we try to glorify Jesus in everything we do."

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Warbot...
These people are so deranged they can't see their hypocracy.

1. Thanks for reminding me about the race.
I've posted it in LBN.

Their Jesus Bot does not bother me.

If you follow my posts you know I consider fundys to be the Anti-Christ.

They are however children of the universe and have a right to be there.

Anyway, I don't think their Jesus Bot did very well.

I think it's exciting that three robots actually finished this year.

This is certainly news of historic importance.

2. Even if you don't consider fundies the antichrist, it's got to be a record
of some kind for irony.

The Jesus Warbot is like the Ghandi bacon double-cheeseburger, or the John F. Kennedy bolt-action hunting rifle.

Just wrong.

3. Unless Jesus really was, like his disciple Simon, a Zealot
The Zealots (lestai) were the armed Jewish resistance against the Roman empire. The fact that Jesus had at least one Zealot (Simon the Zealot) in his number; told his disciples in the Gospel of Luke to get swords (Peter certainly had one at the Garden of Gethsemane); and was crucified--a Roman punishment for political threats-- along with 2 lestai (a word that indicates a criminal of a political nature, translated "thieves" or "robbers"); all might indicate a man involved in the violent end of things. Or, he might have just converted all these people to a peaceful path, maybe.

6. Yea, if I were going to start a big religious or social movement
I think I'd at least write down what I was actually intending, rather than having other people write down their often conflicting opinions about what I was getting at.

Well, I guess you go to religion with the scriptures you have, not the scriptures you'd like to have. Pity that. On the other hand, if christians hadn't been slaughtering each other over doctrinal differences, just imagine the mischief that might have resulted.

4. Jesus Warbot verses Gandhi Warbot verses Buddha Warbot
The Gandhi Warbot would have a software edge, thanks to India's highly skilled programmers, however the Buddha Warbot would have China's hardware manufacturing advantage.

Jesus Warbot might have bought the other bots and put it's label on them, had not Jesus Warbot already spent all it's money.

Mohamed Warbot while having less irony, has less high tech, and so never gets off the drawing board.
